move here if you hate yourself

Just read the newest review about a shooting in the complex. Not surprised at all. Gatewater Landing is a BAD community. Sometimes you don't realize just how bad until you finally escape it. I finally did 8 weeks ago, and now I can't believe I stayed at Gatewater as long as I did (almost 8 years). To those who say if you don't like it, leave. Would it were that easy. Moving is never an easy endeavor, nor cheap. So most people *can't* just pick up and leave. And why should they, really' Everyone in this country should have a right to live in a decent, clean, safe community. I know Gatewater was sold right as I moved out, so maybe the new owners will be better than the horrific previous owners, United Dominion Realty. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
I feel like I moved to a new world, where I am now is so much better. For only $200 more a month than GW wanted for a 2-bedroom, I now have twice the space, 2 bedrooms AND 2 full baths. A full private storage room (off my balcony, locks with a key). All the apartments are well soundproofed. You don't hear the people above or below you. Balconies are kept nice (not ghetto-fied like at Gatewater). These are also better-made buildings. AC and heat don't escape, the wind doesn't whistle in around the windows or from under the door. Doors and screens aren't warped, unlike at Gatewater. Fitness center and business center on site, unlike at Gatewater. Tennis court. Swimming pool. Clubhouse. Unlike at Gatewater. And a fantastic community, both resident and leasing staff alike. Definitely a better class of people. You don't have to step around dog crap, unlike at Gatewater. There is more than adequate trash facilities, unlike at Gatewater. Plentiful parking and well-lit, very unlike Gatewater. Maintenance staff you want to adopt, unlike Gatewater. Leasing center staff that have worked here for years and aren't rude, unlike the McDonalds-calibre staff at Gatewater.
When I moved in to my new place, I had a fresh new welcome mat outside my front door and to my happy surprise, a welcome package waiting on my kitchen counter, full of lots of helpful move-in goodies. Gatewater' Your lucky if you get the keys to your apartment. They sure as heck don't make you feel welcome. They're just laughing that they suckered another person into signing a lease.
I would encourage, ney almost beg, anyone considering moving to Gatewater to please reconsider. If you have any self-respect and any choice in your living situation, you can find better than Gatewater. If you don't believe any of the reviews here, check out the place for yourself. Call the police dept. and find out all the problems. Drive by in the afternoon, late evening, see for yourself the lack of parking, the dog crap everywhere, the sketchy residents. Be kind to yourself, and live somewhere that treats you with respect.
You won't find it at Gatewater.

This tenant is absolutely correct. They wanted to charge me $1000.00 to move from a one bedroom to a two bedroom.

Chargeed you $1000 to switch apartments? That's obscene. You know, there are times I wonder what an audit of this complex might reveal. Bet it would be interesting.
Oh, and the complex was just sold, by the way. Found that out today. Thank God I'm out of here next week, so it won't affect me. And if this is section 8 housing now, I'm double glad I'm moving out. No way I'm living in any complex that accepts section 8.
Also interesting, check your move-out checklist. Now they are requiring you to shampoo the carpeting and provide a receipt as proof. Since they have to repaint the walls and whatever other maintenance needs to be done, or even possibly replace the carpeting entirely, why would they want the carpet shampooed when all kind of workers are going to be walking on the carpet? So I guess the complex doesn't shampoo the carpet when new tenants move in? Is that even legal? And the repainting jobs are pretty substandard. Half the time they repaint OVER top of electrical outlets and window sills. Pretty sad.
Gatewater Landing, tenement living at near-Annapolis prices (unless, of course, the government is picking up the tab).

Gatewater Landing Apartments are for animal lovers. If you love animals this is the place for you. There is supposed to be a 2 pet max for each unit, but they will allow you to have as many as you like and they also welcome stray animals. You can even keep your pets in front and inside of your building to harass the other tenants. You don???t even need a leash for your dogs or have to worry about cleaning up after your pets. Also, if you like pigeons this is the place to be, you can wake up to the sounds of pigeons at your windows and balcony every morning. I hope you like cleaning bird droppings off of your balcony and vehicle on a daily basis because you will. Speaking of cleaning, you can never tell if your building has been cleaned. Building upgrades are past due; well my building upgrade is past due. The floor tile in my building is heavily scuffed and stained, the paint is chipped, spider and dust webs everywhere, and the buildings front glass is sooooo dirty you can barely see through it. To top that off, the rug at the front don???t door of the building has been stained with animal feces, and I will end on that note. Well, this is a day and life at GATEWATER LANDING APARTMENTS??????..ENJOY! I KNOW I WON???T! JUST WAITING FOR THE LEASE TO END!
