What a Rip

Gang violence, bed bugs, and old buildings, oh my! As an experienced resident at Glen Ridge Apartments, I have to express my disappointment as I witness the steady downhill decline of all the apartments in Glen Burnie. This area is full of bullies, criminals, and gang members who are enabled to behave like animals and frighten law-abiding, hardworking citizens. The courageous ladies in the leasing office and maintenance staff have a bad reputation on this website because of past management's total incompetence and poor attitude. In order to fix things around here, new management and maintenance staff unfortunately have more to handle than simple repair and paperwork needs throughout this area. They do the best they can, but several problems slip through the cracks:

Parking-availability is next to nil. The parking lot is very narrow with very few spaces. It doesn't help that several unauthorized cars tend to take up spaces at night. Many residents use the parking lot for drinking, littering, drug deals, communicating through use of loud stereos with sub woofers. We've been told there is constant police surveillance, but they only come when called and sometimes they do not come even then. There is a lot of screaming late at night. There is a small visitor area, but it's several streets away from the majority of the apartments. Be aware of dumpster fires and park your car away from the dumpster. The parking lot itself is a pain in the butt to maneuver in and out of so be careful walking from your car to your apartment without being hit by an automobile.

Noise-- some buildings are quieter than others. I find the farther you are from the leasing office, the worse the noise gets. As previously stated, some residents use automobiles with sub woofer speakers or other modern stereo equipment within their homes meant to annoy, with no regard for the time of day or night. Forget sleeping or getting homework done. Expect property values to decrease and paint to peel off the walls quickly as the excess noise causes the walls to shake severely. The situation only gets worse, but with daily calls to the police and working closely with the property manager maybe we'll start to see some changes in the next year. Do not expect support from your neighbors because they are too afraid of the gangs to complain.

Grounds--usually full of broken glass and litter from trashy residents. Management is constantly sending letters to correct this problem with little to no success. See parking for more "grounds" complaints.

Safety--The current property managers say they are working with police and have thorough documentation procedures for safety complaints. However, police aren't cooperating the way they should. Pizza delivery' Forget it. Gang violence' Be surprised if you're not raped during your stay here. There is a delightful mixture of gangs who fight each other all the time--I guess some other reviewers like to call it "diversity." I like to call it "criminal."

Construction--these buildings are at least 40 years old with the same old wiring and mold problems. Some apartments have the old 1970s urine yellow appliances and brown cabinets sticky with filth. Others are renovated with brand-new but cheap appliances that the faulty wiring and sewer system is not equipped to handle. These buildings are not energy efficient--expect water to be about $35-$100 per month (paid with rent along with various 'service' charges) and BGE to be about $200-$600 a month in the summer. Winter is a bit less harsh. The walls, floors, and ceilings peel and fall apart in every apartment, sometimes revealing thick black and copper mold and mildew. Do not expect any repairs except in emergency situations and even then the job doesn't always get done.

Maintenance--it's touch and go, hit or miss. Some are very polite and timely and deserve a medal, others are rude and inconsiderate and will wreck your apartment more than it already is wrecked. Do not leave valuables out ever in your apartment and take pictures of everything.

Staff--Staff has seen several turn-arounds and can appear very disorganized at times. However with all the drug problems, crime problems, and general problems with the property, I don't think it's entirely their fault. I will say the most recent members of staff are very caring and are truly the best they can do.

Overall, do not move here if you value your health, job, relationships, safety, or life. The End.

I agree 100% with you. My biggest problem now besides stuff that will never get fixed and the noisey neigbhors, is the bed bug problem and when mentioned to the front office they simple replied we don't have a bug problem. So how is a person suppose to get rid of these things?

Who did you speak to at the front office? Usually they are very helpful with the bed bug problem. I recently had to deal with the horror of having them. If you have them, they are OBLIGATED to come spray your belongings. Also, keep some bottles of 90% alcohol around and spray everything you own, especially the carpet. They really live in and underneath the carpet and will keep coming back. If possible, have your carpet replaced. Or move.

How did you find out about the gang activity? A lot of the residents talk about rivaling Mexican Heritage gang activity in some of the buildings and I personally know one of the girls who got raped last March ... Many of my neighbors are diverse and extremely nice, family oriented, hard-working people. I'm worried that if others read these reviews that nice people won't move here, but if these reviews are truthful the reviews should stay up until this complex does something to deserve positive reviews.
