HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE -- WOULD "NOT" RECCOMEND

I was just curious to read how other tenants here at Southgate feel about the conditions and overall quality of the complex and honestly, i WASN'T surprised to find one negative comment after the other regarding Southgate. There was one review in particular that i will post beneath mine, only because I felt like I was actually *LIVING* through every possible scenario this person spelled out in their review.

First: My Experience @ Southgate Apartments:

Basically, the apartment complex is cheap. A few months after we first moved in, we were wondering why there was such a cold breeze coming from the second bedroom. Little did we know that when we'd the check the window, the *ENTIRE* window would fall RIGHT OUT of the hinges - we can LITERALLY pull the ENTIRE window OUT of the wall. (And watch us get billed for this, as if WE were the ones responsible!)

Next: The flooring is HORRIBLY CHEAP. We can hear everything our upstairs neighbors are doing and i mean EVERYTHING! Fighting, laughing, talking, crying, even having SEX! We can hear them walk from room to room, all day, everyday. I can even hear that they have TWO dogs due to the pitter pattering in separate rooms that can be heard from our ceiling. But here's the thing: I don't mind my upstairs neighbors; it isn't their fault the flooring was made so cheaply. However, I do sympathize with my downstairs neighbors... One night, after putting up a full length mirror on the back of our bathroom door, the mirror had gotten loose during the middle of the night and fell, breaking into pieces on the floor :( waking us up out of our sleep and scaring us half to death. Meanwhile, our downstairs neighbors begin to bang furiously on their ceiling (our floor) as if we did this ON PURPOSE!('!') A few weeks later, my three year old nephew was here to visit and was running from the kitchen and living room (7 or 8pm); Again, our downstairs neighbors began banging furiously! I didn't know if it was just actual neighbors from HELL that wanted us to chain the baby to the crib or if this building was really just as cheap as it seemed to be... (Could be both.. who knows..)

Next: The AC breaks down. NO heat at all, what so ever, for: MONTHS. Maintenance never gets around to doing their job or coming to our apartment when we're not working. Maintenance is RUDE and HORRIBLE at doing their job. Hate to bash people when it comes to them doing their job, but the different experiences I've had have been downright RIDICULOUS...

Next: We get a small electrical heater, that we plug into our bedroom wall in the middle of FREEZING February due to our AC/Heater that Southgate provides, which continues to just "blow out". So, I made sure NOT to put my small floor heater next to anything flammable... Only for my family to wake up during the middle of the night, chocking on smoke from a smoky electrical socket due to bad ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION!!!!!! We called our supposed 24/7 emergency maintenance, only to find out they don't work ON THE WEEKENDS....!'!'!' They come in that Monday, rip a BIG WHOLE in our wall where the electrical socket had been and tell us they'll come back THE NEXT DAY to finish the job. And guess what'''' THEY NEVER CAME BACK THE NEXT DAY!

Oh yeah, there's never any parking after 7pm - People are double parking and parking along the road due to it being over crowded with NOT ENOUGH parking spaces to accommodate it's tenants. Mind you, my family has ONE car. I don't even have TWO and there's not enough parking!

One small laundry facility in our building. Let me define "small": Two TINY washers. And two dryers. That is our laundry facility. In a room that can fit more than ten, we only have two of each machine. $1.50 per load. We couldn't even fit a quilt in that washer if we wanted to.

This has been TORMENTING! Southgate is HORRIBLE. They charge us for AC/Heat we don't even HAVE. We call a supposed 24/7 emergency maintenance service that doesn't work on the WEEKENDS or pretty much EVER since they say they'll 'come back' to finish a half-@ss job they start, yet they NEVER ACTUALLY COME BACK unless you hound the rent office for them to actually do their job. We have neighbors that don't quite understand how cheap this building is and make us feel as though we have to have our 3 year old nephew tip toe around the house and NEVER PLAY due to them being SERIOUS -------S or REALLY CHEAP FLOORING... one or the other... (maybe both) And YES! There ARE a bunch of ghetto males walking around through here, yelling and cursing at 1 in the morning - I have no idea what the HELL is going on here, BUT I KNOW I WOULDN'T COME BACK HERE EVEN IF I WAS *PAID* TO!!!

-----Thank you apartmentratings.com for letting me vent =] And now: A lovely review from another Southgate reviewer that posted on this site as well:

I have lived at Southgate on Highland Dr for about 6 months. The neighbors below me had a fire caused by sheetrock installed over the furnace that the fire department said was against building code. I had $1,700 dollars worth of stereo equipment stolen from my locked truck. My truck was towed by ABC towing which the contract to patrol the place. (I was double parked because there were not any parking spaces left and someone else was double parked so I parked next to them, that was 275 dollars)I asked A&G there management company to replace our mailboxes which they only fixed. (our mailbox door has been pried open and they didn't replace that)The back bedroom barely heats or cools so we use a portable heater and fan. Our bathroom walls have some kind of red stuff that seeps through the paint that I have to scrub about every two weeks. I sent them a check for rent on a saturday and was charged a late fee even though it was postmarked and dated before the 5th of the month. Thuggy people hang out in the evenings and drugs are prominent in the area. This place is Ghetto. The air conditioning units look like they are a 100 years old. Parking is a nightmare. The siding on the buildings falls off, the floors creak and make so much racket no matter where you are in the apt. Southgate is cheap but you definately end up "paying" for it! Would not recommend
