There was a minor disaster when my husband and I moved in... A manager had come in and re-done the move-in inspection and told maintenance to re-paint a few places. Well, they must've forgotten because when we walk in to our new place, there's closet doors on the floor and painters tape dotting all the walls. It was resolved quickly by the maintenance manager and we were able to move our stuff in soon enough. Even though they tried to show us other appartments to move into- and this is on moving day! They had also left the stove and fridge pulled out into the middle of the kitchen because they had cleaned behind it and never gone back.
It all depends on where you live in this complex. Southgate has two groups of buildings on both sides of Rt. 100. I lived in the Highland Drive group. Some of the buildings in the front of the complex, near the townhomes, are kinda shady. But I came from a condo complex in PG County that had as much crime as the entire CITY of Glen Burnie, so this place is a great improvement. I was told by the Domino's people that they won't deliver to Highland Drive after dark for the drivers safety, but I haven't seen anything that would make me think that.
We can hear our neighbors above us walking around only because the floor creaks a little in one spot but other than that, no other noise complaints.
We sometimes can't park right in front of our building but that's no big deal...
The alarm system doesn't always work and we have to call the office to have them re-set it, but again that's no big deal; as long as you lock your doors don't worry about it.
The water pressure is great and the whole apartment is pretty sound-proof. You can hear the neighbors in the hallways but as soon as you close your door, not a peep.
There was a fire a few weeks ago that completely destroyed a couple buildings, which they still haven't determined the cause of, but somebody said it started on a balcony.
No complaints about the location, everything you need is within a mile or two :)
Quality fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom. Large living room/ dining room area.

I also live on the highland drive side of SG. You just moved in so give it a few months and you might decide to edit your post.

I live at Southgate also, and I must say...It's not that bad. I wish I had a washer and dryer in the apartment but other then everything is cool. My apartment was clean when I moved in, there's not a lot of noise, and the ladies in the office are very nice. I know its not the best place in the world, but its definetly not the worst.
