My boyfriend and I moved into a one bedroom apartment a little over two years ago, and we plan to stay for a few more years. No, it isn't the greatest place in the world, but if you need to live in the area, I don't think you'll find better accomodations for the price. Trust me, I did A LOT of research.
The good: It is very safe...at least I've never heard of anyone having any problems. Never had any fear when I've been walking around my place, even at night. The office staff is nice and helpful, and the office is open 7 days a week. Parking on the street is available for extra cars, but it can be a long walk if you live in one of the back buildings. Maintenace is pretty speedy too.
The bad: You can hear everything neighbors above you do. Sneezing, snoring, fighting, sex...you name it. I've pretty much become desensitized, but sometimes it annoys me. It is an old building and I do see bugs sometimes...mostly in the summer. Centipedes have been the bug of choice in our apartment, although our cat has cut them down considerably. Apparently the bugs differ depending on the building you live in. I've always lived in the same place, so I can't say anything about the roach problems other have had.
So, in summary, this is a great place for people who can deal with these setbacks. I feel like most twentysomethings are used to living in less-than-perfect rental units. As long as you don't have kids (there simply isn't enough room), I think this place is great!
