five-year resident - kind of sad to go

I've been happy living at Lakeside North, sharing a two-bedroom apartment with a roommate for the past five years. The management staff is very professional, pleasant, and quick to make needed leasing changes. Maintainance responds promptly. The buildings are 1960s-era, hence, they have design quirks, such as wall-length door-windows. The walls are a bit thin, so it helps to live on the top floor. The old door-windows were replaced a couple of years ago with new weather-tight glass. Very few roaches seen in or around the apartment during my years here (good luck finding an apartment with NO roaches whatsoever).
The apartment complex is home to professionals, young families, and many graduate students. As a grad student at UMD myself, I managed well without a car by taking the university shuttle and the R12 bus. Those with vehicles have a short, easy trip to campus or to the beltway. I would strongly recommend this apartment to graduate students searching for a place in the short or long term - just look for someone advertising on the www.och.umd.edu site for a roommate for their Lakeside North apartment.
The apartment complex is in the old planned community of Greenbelt, which is an attractive, quiet, forested neighborhood. Greenbelt Lake Park is nearby, and the town center can also be reached on foot. I chose to move into this neighborhood specifically because it's pretty safe (e.g. a police station is right down the road). I particularly enjoyed the tall shady trees and biking to the Greenbelt Farmer's Market on Sundays....(sigh).

Summer bills really depend on how long hot weather lasts. I was paying only about $60 a month last summer, but it got up to about $150 a month the previous year. However, I did have the worst of it because I lived on a top floor apartment. The heating system uses gas, which you don't pay for. Hence, winter bills are pretty low ($20-40 a month).

What is it like getting to Greenbelt Metro from the complex? Walking distance? Any bus routes? Thanks.
