Not the best

Springhill Lake is not the worst place to live, although it?s far from the best. I live in a townhouse, and it?s fairly spacious for the price we pay for rent. Utilities are included in the rent, we have a washer and dryer in our place, and I?ve never seen any bugs other than the ones the fly in through the windows. Parking is pretty good, too, especially by the townhouses. I?ve never had problems find a parking spot, and we have 4 cars between me and my roommates.

Now the bad parts. I would have to say that the worst part is the crime. Thankfully, nothing has happened to me yet, but if I stay here too much longer, it?s bound to. My roommate and a couple of my friends have all had their cars broken into. And I noticed that just the other day, one of our neighbor?s cars had had the front passenger window broken out. So, I don?t leave anything at all in my car. So far it?s worked. Hopefully it?ll work until the end of the summer when my lease is up.

Aside from breaking into cars, there are other crimes, too. Drugs are a bit of a problem. You frequently see drug deals occuring if you walk around at night. I?ve never had a problem with any of them, though. Just keep on walking and don?t pay too much attention to them. A couple weeks ago, a couple of my friends saw a fight erupt between two groups of people that had to be broken up by the cops. I?ve seen a guy arrested at gunpoint by the cops, and you?ll frequently hear the police sirens. Most food places won?t deliver after dark because they?ve been robbed too many times. I?ll still walk around some at night between my place and my friends? place, but I definitely don?t let my female friends walk around alone, even if it?s just the twenty feet between my front door and where they?re parked.

Like everyone else has said, maintenance is horrible. Our first problem with our oven took over six months for maintenance to fix. We weren?t really using the oven, so we didn?t call that often, but it still took them that long to address the problem. Then just recently our dishwasher clogged. Since we use that far more often, we made sure to call more often. After one roommate called several times, finally yelling at them the last time, they fixed it in less than a week. But you really need to light a fire under their asses to get them to do anything.

As for utilities, I leave for work before 9:00, and get back after 4:00, the times when everyone seems to say the water goes out, so I haven't had much of a problem with this. In the slightly less than a year I've lived here, I've only lost complete water pressure once, and hot water one time on top of that. This is the first year I?ve lived here, so I don?t know exactly when they switch on the AC, but they haven?t yet. It's made it pretty uncomfortable on hot days.

It?s usually not too noisy. The sound insulation is good enough that we don?t hear too much coming from the neighbors. (Although at my friends? apartment, you can always hear the kids running around above them.) The problem is all the damned people that are too lazy to get out of their cars to go knock on a door. Every morning, it?s people honking their horns that first wakes me up, and not my alarm clock. I understand at night when people don?t want to get out of their cars, but it shouldn?t be a problem when it?s light out. And the cabbies do it all day long.

Cabbies are another annoyance of the the area. They just cruise around all the time looking for people to pick up. They drive really slowly, never use turn signals, and sometimes just stop right in front of you to pick someone up or drop them off.

The kids in the neigborhood can be annoying. You have to be careful driving to make sure they don?t jump out in front of you, or drive their bike in front of you. You?ve got to watch out for all the shopping carts they push around, too. And several aren?t the nicest kids, either. One kid who couldn?t have been older than elementary school gave me the finger as I drove past just because I happened to look at him. And the cursing I?ve heard come from the mouths of kids that didn?t even look like they were in school yet, they?ve got worse mouths than me.

Anyway, if you need a place to stay that?s cheap, and you don?t have anything worth being stolen, SHL is the place for you. If you?re looking for a nice, quiet place to live where you wouldn?t mind having your grandparents visit, try looking someplace else. I know I?m looking forward to moving out when my lease is up.
