They should be paying us to live here...

I recently moved out of SHL and what a relief it has been. I had problems with management and maintenance from the beginning, right up until the very end. Two days before my lease ended I came back to the apartment to find that the walls had been painted, all of my stuff thrown in one big pile, and the front door completely unlocked. As I'm sure most residents know, you definitely get the run-a-around from management whenever you have a problem. This is exactly what happened to me. I spoke to one person who then transferred me to another, who then transferred me to another, who said they would call back after inquiring about what happened. Of course I had to call the person back and they told me they couldn't help me, so forth and so on... During the two years I lived there I've had several "serious" mainatence issues. I called 7-8 times to report a leak over my bedroom ceiling (I actually had to use buckets to keep puddles from forming on the floor), several times about my refridgerator that would stop working and thaw all of my meat out, my dishwater which would speratically shoot sparks out, and the dead-bolt that was falling off my door. Guess how many times maintanence showed up to take a look at these issues... 0. On top of these problems, I was constantly having issues with neighbors who would play music from 11pm until 7-8 am, solid. It wasn't a quiet, you could sort of hear the music, it was a full on rap concert. The bedroom floor vibrated as did the closet doors. After failing to get any sort of a reaction from the police and community relations, I resorted to beating on the floor with a large wrench until the music either softened or ceased. Speaking of parasite problems, which it seems most people acquire while living here, I'd never had any issues with roaches or mice up until I got new neighbors. And it was at that point that I started finding roaches in and around the cabinets in the kitchen. As a former employee of Scott's, I already had insect pesticides readily available and I made sure to completely empty them around any crack or crevice leading to the outside world. As a suggestion to any current tenant that is having an issue with insects, buy Home Defense Max. It should take care of the problem, because we all know that no one else will. After my time here, I can say with complete honesty and truth that this complex, it's management, and owner's are true money-grubbing c*cksuckers who don't care about anyone but themselves. It also appears to me that in the past two years, problems here have only grown worse. If you don't get shot, stabbed, mugged, robbed, or carjacked, then the only thing you really need to worry about is coming home to find you're building burnt to the ground. Fire seems to be climbing up the ladder of important things to worry about lately. I believe that there have been 11-12 seperate fires since March of last year. Not exactly an outstanding track record. So for any future tenants that may be eyeing this place as a future residence, I would strongly urge you to find another complex, house, etc. It isn't worth the money or the agrivation. No matter how much shorter your commute is, where the complex is located, or the price of rent, it is NOT WORTH IT. I hope that in some small way, this may help someone avoid the headaches and possible heart break in the future.

I knew several previous tenants that ran into the same problem. From the way it sounds, the apartment complex, police, and towing company are all in it together. The police will ride around, check your tags out and then mark your car to be towed, if your tags are expired. This is just one of the many perks when living in Spring Hill Lake.

Awesome, mine is pretty interesting too. I bought a car from a student. She dropped the car, I got the title. She removed her tags. Damn me. I went inside to grab the dummy tag that I had in my apartment. I went inside home and was relaxing like a king. Then in 2 hours, car is towed. I paid, I do not remember how much, probably aroun 150 dollars. Went there. Same story. They would not accept card. Had to go to ATM, etc.
Great World Man.

I have live din Springhill Lake for two and half years. The maintenance staff is horrible, the crime is off the charts and last week I saw a man being stuffed into the trunk of a car. If you haven't found a body in a vehicle, bee sexually assaulted, or mugged in this time....you are considered a miracle. Springhill lake recently had a management turnover of some sort and everything has really gone downhill. If you are a college student or a military family, I would not suggest you move here. On more than one occassion I have paid my rent, and come home two week later to find a court summons on my door. I go to court and the rent has been paid ( as springhill lake miraculously cashed a check they never received). In addition to this there was a maintenance employee who lived below me who was fired for stealing prescription meds. from tenant's homes. After he moved another springhill lake employee moved in and began running an illegal boarding house out of the unit. This caused and outbreak of chinches (bedbugs) in the building and as if that wasn't bad enough.....they were also stealing electricity from the utility room and PEPCO had to come investigate and refund 600-800 electric bills. Springhill Lake was notified of this problem on three occassions and simply did nothing. PEPCO confirmed they hat never been contacted by Springhill lake. This used to be a nice neighborhood but after the plans for demolition were tabled.....we began suffering higher crime, fires/arson, and slow if any response from maintenance. SHL will renew your lease though....it seems like they are getting desperate. If you have to move here....refuse to be anywhere deep inside the community. ONLY LIVE ON A MAIN STREET. If you dont have direct access to the main streets from your apartment building MOVE. The crime rates are significantly higher in these "buried" areas. Also...if you like drugs.....don't worry there are more than enough pushers on the corners for you to get water your personal poison is.
FOR ANYONE WHO DOUBTS WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN....WALK THE STREETS OF SPRINGHILL LAKE AND AS ANY RESIDENT. CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND GET A CRIME LOG FOR THE AREA. CALL PEPCO AND ASK ABOUT INSTANCES OF STOLEN ELECTRICTY (WHICH IS DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE DEATH).
HAPPY HOUSE HUNTING

I signed a contract with Springhill Lakes Apartments in late February of this year. I have to admit I made a big mistake. I am determined to leave as soon as possible. Incidentally, I recieved an electric bill from PEPCO of $2,197. PEPCO charged me a Commercial Non-Residential rate for electricity used in a two-bedroom with one batthroom apartment. Time to return to Virginia ....
