A Lot Better Than I Expected

My roommate bought a house so we were parting ways. We lived in Wynfield Park for a year and a half. When I checked out Springhill Lake, I completely expected an older facility. After the Wynfield Park experience, however, I was aware that newer does not always mean "better."

I took a two bedroom apartment on the second floor for $500 cheaper than WP. Older place, very painted, but HUGE compared to my last apartment at WP. If I'm in the bedroom and my fiancee is saying something in the livingroom, I can't hear him.

Full size washer and dryer in the bigger than average kitchen. You can put a breakfast table and chairs in the kitchen! Down side: not enough storage space or counter space.

You can't hear the neighbors next door, but you can hear someone walking overhead. My lovely overhead neighbor has been known to blast his music at 5:30 am. We cured him of that early on, but he has momentary lapses (once a month--and it's not nearly that loud). Also, my lovely overhead neighbor seems to (1) do laps in his bedroom at night, and (2) have insomnia--the man sleeps for three hours a night, I am convinced!!!

The neighbor downstairs blasts his music when his wife isn't around. Lesson: I'm going to have to get a serious stereo system. (ha ha, just kidding)

Contacting the main office is effective. If you receive three noise complaints, you get kicked out. I've been holding back because I don't like the idea of holding someone's fate in my hands...FOR NOW.

Maintenance is quick. The neighbors are pretty friendly and clean. Haven't seen a single roach yet. (When I was walking to the lease office to check out the place, someone drove by and yelled, "This place has roaches!!" It put me on guard, but I think it really depends on who your neighbors are.

Diverse community; people walking with their kids in strollers or walking dogs at night (I mean, 9-10 pm). The kids aren't too loud in the summer (I guess unless you live near the pool or jungle gym).

Downsides: (1) If you live on the outside of the complex parallel to 495 it is LOUD. Louder than you can imagine. As in, I thought I would be enjoying my balcony, but I've only been out there once for ten minutes in 8 months. The inside of the complex is quieter. (2) The air/heat is turned off for two weeks in the spring and the fall to work on the ac/heaters. And there's no cross breeze because of the layout of the apartments. So, make sure you have plenty of fans at your disposal before moving in. Target will sell out--which is why I suffered this fall. :(

All in all, I plan on living here for another year with no complaint.

Thank you! It seems everyone has nothing but negative comments about this place, but I still have no idea what those comments are fueled by. Aside from those two unpleasant weeks this fall when I just about died from the ac/heater switchover, I've had nothing but good experiences here. My apartment is very spacious and has excellent storage space, although i agree with you that there could be a bit more counter space in the kitchen. With everyone posting on this site about how dangerous and dirty and loud the complex was, I was nervous moving in, but I haven't felt threatened to scared since I've lived here and I haven't seen a single roach yet. The only bug I have encountered in my apartment was a little spider, which scampered in while I had the door to the balcony open .. but that was it. I've been very pleased living here and for those looking to live here, I would take all postings on here with a grain of salt because just because someone had a bad experience there for whatever reason doesn't mean you will. Just do your research and you'll be satisfied with the result!

AS I HAVE STATED IN MY EARLIER POST, AND IF YOU CAN SEE THE PICTURES OF HOW THEY LEFT OUR BATHROOM, WE LIVED IN THE 6021 BUILDING ON THE BOTTOM FLOOR, AND IT WAS HELL!!!THE UPSTAIRS NEIGHBOR DOG WOULD PEE OVER THE BALCONY OR IF WE WERE OUT ON THE PATIO HE WOULD POUR WATER OVER HIS BALCONY, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT WE HAD ALL KIND OF BUGS IN OUR APT, AND IT WAS NOT ROACHES !!! THE HEAT DID NOT WORK IN THE WINTER, THE AIR DID NOT WORK IN THE SUMMER , CRACK HEADS KNOCKED AT YOUR DOOR ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT LOOKING FOR MONEY TO SUPPORT THEIR HABIT,OUR BEDROOM CEILING FELL IN, IT TOOK THEM AN ENTIRE MONTH TO FIX IT, WE LIVED THERE WITH A TRASH BAG UP IN THE CEILING, THEY REPLACED THE BATHROOM TILE 2 TIMES, EACH TIME IT FELL BACK OFF AND EACH TIME IT FELL OFF IT HAD TWICE AS MUCH MOLD THEN THE FIRST TIME, THE LAST TIME THEY CAME TO LOOK AT THE BATHROOM, THE MAINTENANCE MAN PULLED ALL THE TILE OFF THE WALL AND THRU IT IN THE BATHROOM FLOOR AND THAT IS WHERE IT STAYED, IT WAS STILL LAYING THERE WHEN WE MOVED A MONTH LATER, EVERY TIME I WOULD CALL FOR SERVICE THEY SAY THEY WOULD SEND SOMEBODY OUT, NO BODY NEVER CAME, WHEN THEY GOT TIRED OF ME CALLING THE SURPERVISOR OF MAINTENANCE TOLD ME I WAS NOT ON THE LEASE AND DO NOT CALL BACK...FUNNY THING IS I WAS IN THE DAMN LEASE !!! WHEN WE MOVED WE HAD MOLD IN THE BEDROOM CEILING IN THE BEDROOM WALK IN CLOSET AND THE ENTIRE BATHROOM WALL, WE MOVED IN SHL APRIL OF 2006 IT WAS OK BUT WHEN THE SUMMER CAME IT WAS HELL...GUN SHOTS EVERY NIGHT, POLICE CHASEING PEOPLE EVERY DAY, IN THE WINTER SOMEONE RAN INTO MY HUSBAND CAR A MESSED HIS BUMPER UP, I SAY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE THERE PLEASE DO NOT DO IT, RUN AWAY FROM THE PLACE.....

Again, it's all in where you live AND your neighbors. I would NEVER live in the area/building where pets are allowed because not everybody who has a pet will take care of their surroundings and therefore, the building stinks, there are fleas everywhere, animal waste and roaches.

Well...who can pick where they live in that hell hole?? AIMCO wants to tear it down and replace with high density housing. They're just to cheap to replace the elementary school shich is an extension of their cheapness with their renters.

Addition to my post: It's weird because I was living in another complex (across from IKEA), and my roommate and I thought that we would just love it. It was the most annoying complex I've ever lived in. We did have a washer and dryer, and we were on the top floor, so there was basically no noise, but management would do weird things that would inconvenience scores of residents at the same time. Everything was newer, but the two bedroom apartments were $500 more than Springhill Lake. My next move is a house, but I generally have no complaints. (Oh, the neighbor below me moved!) So, I'm still satisfied. By the way, most of my surrounding neighbors have lived in their apartments for YEARS. 10 years. 15 years. At my last place, I did a negative review and got a bunch of responses calling me all kinds of crazy. LOL So, I think it really depends on where in the complex you are.

I concur! I am a new potential resident. I am a professional, single mother, with well behaved school-aged children. I just want a decent apartment, and I am definitely doing my research! So, with that being said, in which area do you live? I'm looking to move in by the end of the week, 03/01/08. I'm actually breaking my lease from another management company due to a different pestilent infestation within the community. Roaches and rodents are easier to manage than the critters I'm dealing with! So, once again, what area are you in, or which area do you suggest? Thanks, serious apartment seeker....
