I have been living here for going on 2 years and I must admit that the area that I live in (Edmonston Road past the Middle School),is the best area. It's pretty much the area where alot of the staff live as well. All of my neighbors in my building are wonderful and we all look out for each other. When I first moved in here, a couple of roaches tried to stay here rent free but I had that taken care of IMMEDIATLY and haven't seen one since!!! It's true, the maintenance department SUCKS, they are extremly incompetent and they do NOT respond in a timely fashion, however, if you are a day late in paying the rent, you are recieving a letter to be evicted within a matter of a week!! I had a really bad mold problem when I first moved in and had to get a Greenbelt Inspector involved, in which SHL was fined a lot of money each day until they replaced my drywall, tile floor in the kitchen, and entire ceiling in my bathroom and now, I have no complaints, along with an almost brand new apartment after all of the repairs. I try not to call maintenance too much because they are ALWAYS setting off my alarm!! If I'm not home when they come, they are no longer allowed to come in. The office staff are just as incompetent. The area I live in is clean and pretty quiet. I WOULD NOT live anywhere else in the complex...EVER!!Even if they offered it to me for free!! They treat you differently based on where you live, I truly believe that. I don't have any air conditioning or heating issues because I'm on the bottom level and usually, heat rises, so the people on the upper levels suffer moreso in the spring when it's getting hot and our air isn't on yet. By the way, I pay over $1300 per month (base rent and the little utilities) for a 2bdrm and den and have a full size washer and dryer that was brand new when I first moved in. If I could change my living arrangements, I would move to the very top level (in my same building) because I can't stand hearing people walking above me and the fact that the floors are paper thin do not help, but thankfully, my neighbors above me are very courteous and have no children. The parking spaces are way to thin and people will bump your doors like your car isn't there!! But I park on the side where there are only cars in front and back of me. I'm actually looking to move because I am a single parent and do not wish to pay over $1300 per month any longer. Take my review for what it's worth and ask to move on Edmonston Road.

Thanks for you honesty. The problem is you should have never had to deal with roaches or mold in your apartment. Being a single mother I'm sure this occupied much of your time especially having to contact the inspectors. This is why so many of us are opposed to SHL. Their service is horable and though the rent maybe less you still are paying over 1,000.00 a month. Hopefully your neighbors won't move like mine did. Then the noise got outrageous because they didn't work and didn't see a need to go to sleep in the evening.
