Don't listen to what others say about Springhill Lake. Every apartment complex has it's few problems. Spring Hill Lake is the largest community in the East Coast, so you will see a little bit more complaints than normal. It just so happens that when something negative happens, they will post it on this web site. They say, "For every good experience, they will tell one person, For every bad experience, they will tell 10 people..." Also, Spring Hill Lake along with PG County has changed.
PG County itself was HORRIBLE years ago. I know this is still considered to by MOCO, but remember downtown Silver Spring' Look at it now. Take a look at the National Harbour Project. Greenbelt itself is transformed and will continue to do so. (wait and see the changes they have in store with these Plaza type places coming.) In a nutshell, the trash is getting pushed further and further from Washington, D.C. and it's surrounding suburban cities.
I've been a student at UMD for 2 years now. Paying for school, my budget was rough. Spring Hill Lake provided me with an affordable alternative from living in noisy College Park. I've saved so much money this year, I have money in my budget to wine and dine females. Not to mention the single females in this complex are top notch and very friendly! The first day I moved in, the females above me (also UMD students) invited me for dinner. I ended up dating both of them this year! And we are still good friends to this day... I would say more and more college students like me are moving to Spring Hill Lake. There are also a lot of young professionals who work in the area. And the rest are families with cute kids. I invite some of these kids in my building to play Xbox360 with me when I'm bored...
The staff is awesome. They made the transition from College Park to Spring Hill Lake very easy. The unit is very spacious. I've only had one problem with the kitchen light, and the maintenance guy came the very next morning. Apparently it needed a new light bulb.

Comedic riot is an understatement. If this was really posted by a college student living there and not by SHL management, then count yourself lucky. While it was a long while ago that I lived at SHL apt, I own a house a few miles down the road in Beltsville and have been living in the area since I moved from SHL. The outward push you alluded to is happening, unfortunately that means the riff raff from West Hyattsville and PG Plaza areas are moving toward Greenbelt. We have had some recent problems with graffiti and crime rates increasing in the area. Everyone I've met in person that lived at SHL talks poorly of the management and tells horror stories ranging from shootings to management nightmares. So once again, count yourself LUCKY and get out while you are ahead!

Just a few things that come to mind.
---"Also, Spring Hill Lake along with PG County has changed"
-Springhill Lake is a crime nightmare, along with most of PG county. I have to say that when I moved into SHL in 2001, it wasn't a horrible place, but far from serene. I moved out in 2006 because the place is ridiculous, from car thefts, drug use and dealing, gunpoint robberies, etc, etc, etc.
---"Not to mention the single females in this complex are top notch and very friendly!"
-If you call black and hispanic hoochies and ghetto queens top-notch, then this is your ticket. I lived there for 5 years and never saw any female who I wasn't afraid I'd catch an STD from.
---"I invite some of these kids in my building to play Xbox360 with me when I'm bored..."
-This is just an invitation to having your apartment broken in to and having you stuff stolen. Remember, this is not "The Hamptons".
---"The staff is awesome"
-Yeah right, they are ignorant, power-hungry, uneducation peons.
---"and the maintenance guy came the very next morning"
-Now I know you work for SHL. I had about 20 maintenance requests over the 5 years I was there and the shortest wait time I had was 3 days. I had a leaky pipe under the bathroom sink that I couldn't stop and it was leaking to the apartment below and it took them 8 days to respond, 8 f*#@ing days!!!
SHL is a joke and is very dangerous. Never move in there. Hell, don't even drive into the complex. If you do and it is after dark, make sure you have a gun!

It amazes me how people write bogus reviews. Perhaps your completing too many college papers and are suffering from lack of sleep. I encourage anyone who plans to move to this complex to read the reviews as well as the Greenbelt paper. Don't make a mistake by moving into this dump and certainly don't believe the hype that this person is putting out there. I never lived in a worst complex than this one.

I live in SHL. It's not that bad, and for the a%%hole that made that comment about nothing but black and hispanic hoochies live at SHL and he is scared he might catch a STD. He probably already have one. I am a black queen nowhere near a hoochie. you just mad because you probably could not get a black or hispanic hoochie if you tried with your busted a**

SHL is nowhere near as bad as you all say. I haven't had a single bad experience since I've moved in. And please, I've walked alone at night coming back from work and haven't been fearful of anything or anyone and I'm a petite girl just out of college. And if you have such a problem with it save your breath and time and move, or if you have already moved go spread your misery elsewhere.
