I hated the way SHL looked but never the less it was in a comfortable location for my commute to Bmore. Any way I was told that everything was ok and that the next time I came in I would do a walk through of the apartment and sign my lease. I know that all apartment complexes arent perfect especially if it isnt a new development. The women in the rental office decided to wait til the moment that I got there to say that I made $2,500 less than the requirements. They stated that they didnt understand how I made as much as I did with my hourly income, (I will admit that I did confuse my ytd income because I added predicted paychecks including January, and this is a new year). I advised them that I work commmission and alot of my money comes from there. I also advised them that I had just received a raise of 25% of what I was making and that I also was working part time during the 2007 year and would be working a longer work schedule now. I also advised them that raise was only for relocating and that I will be receiving yet another raise either this month or February. They were incompetent, they kept looking at my pay stub as if it were faulty and stated that they couldnt verify my salary because the company my job uses for verfication they would have to subscribe and pay for. (Alot of companies use this service. They insisted on speaking to my manager even after my manager told them that he cannot release any information to them they would have to call the job verification. Then they expected me to drive to Nottingham Md (White Marsh) just to get a employment confirmation later stating how much I would be making and date of hire. All of this should have been done prior to my move in date. When I asked them why they decided to wait so long to call me the manager lied and told the other employee that they had been calling me and leaving me messages. (They called the day before and left a message and when I called back another employee told me that they were just calling to confirm my move in date the next day). I stayed in there for 3 hours for nothing and when I asked for my refund for my deposit, They initially told me that it would be 3 to 4 weeks but when I spoke with another employee she said it could be as soon as a week. They also told me that they dont give out receipts or letters stating they will be issuing a refund. I made sure that I received one. Also the apartment that I requested to move in was close to the rental office, they thought that I was gonna move into another location somewhere else in that complex due, no cause I believe the hype about SHL and although my income was short $2500, I know that it was still more than theirs and they work full time and mines was/is a part time college job. Maybe if I was a man it would have been different but women (ugh). Oh and that walk in closet (LMAO), what walk in closet I had to go price shelfing materials at home depot to make it more spacious.

I would agree that the staff is totally incompetent. I've been working on getting a lease for the past month and it has been nothing but a headache. Since I'm moving from NC and it's not really an option for me to go up to DC I've had to arrange everything by phone. I was told I had to submit 4 different applications, one for each roommate and cosigner, plus the fees, then later they told me I only needed to submit a single application and the others were a waste. Then later still they needed another application from me, no reason given, plus another fee. Oh and of course no refunds. The price for the unit has gone up twice with no explanation and a third time because the place we're getting is on the second floor, which for some reason warrants a jump in the price of rent. There is never anyone in the office, I constantly have to leave messages, and one time when someone did pick up they told me I had to wrong number and hung up on me. The staff is forgetful and has to be reminded to send me leasing documents at least twice before anything gets done and they can't even answer simple questions about either the lease or the apartment without telling me that they need to call back. I only hope that when I move in there won't be much need to contact the front desk about anything, or that I can fix it myself.
