I am a white Military wife, have a 2 year old daughter, and am expecting another.... Pros of Springhill Lake- The best things I have experienced living here (In the 9322 Building) is the fact that we have not had very many roaches, we live closest to the metro (only about 15 minutes of a walk), the recreation center has a little better of a park that we live right behind, and the rent is cheaper than most other places around the DC area. Cons- The water gets turned off almost every other day, literally (From around 9 am to 5 pm). And half of the time this is without notice. We had quite a few crickets in our apartment this last fall! Weird huh!' And we are even up a level!, Maintenance takes forever to fix anything (It usually takes at least three times of calling to get someone to actually fix something, and if it's an actual project I would just forget about it), The crime here is a BIG problem almost everyone I know that lives in Springhill Lake has had an incident, Don't even think about walking outside past dusk!, Fires are a huge problem also I stood with a friend and watched 21 units (Including his) burn down a few months ago.....If you move here make sure you have more than enough renters insurance! Also as someone who has suffered for a long time with insomnia it is extremely frustrating to hear sirens from the freeway, car alarms, fighting, yelling, and cussing most nights. This is not somewhere I suggest you live with a family!

Thank you for your honesty! This is not a place for someone who plans to raise children. SHL has a very unprofessional staff and they don't provide any kind of customer service. And forget about getting the fire insurance. Once the insurance company finds out your moving here your premium will be too high. She is absolutely right about the fires. They are happening and unfortunately families are loosing everything.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY THE FIRES ARE OCCURRING? I WAS TOLD BY THE RENTAL OFFICE THAT SOME 6 YEAR OLD STARTED THE LAST ONE PLAYING WITH MATCHES. BUT THEN I HEARD THAT IT MAY BE ELECTICAL WIRING ISSUES WITHIN THE COMPLEX AS A WHOLE. I PAID MY SECURITY DEPOSIT AND THEN CHANGED MY MIND...ONLY TO BE TOLD I WOULD LOSE MY ENTIRE $400, SO NOW I FEEL FORCED TO MOVE IN. I MADE THEM PLACE ME ON EDMONDSTON COURT NEAR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT I AM SO SCARED NOW TO GO THERE. I HAVE BEEN CRYING FOR THE LAST WEEK STRAIGHT AND I MOVE IN THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

Honestly I had the same fears but I stepped out on faith. The electric fires are coming from older buildings. Some building are very old which means the wiring is not up to date. I was shown where the fires occured and was given a legitimate explanation. As far as the Security Deposit, they give you 72 hours to change your mind and after that they will keep your money. I'll be moving into a townhome in May and you better believe I got all the information I needed.
