After reading all of the reviews, I am afraid of what I will encounter when I move in. Can anyone tell me how it is at the end of Edmonston Road (basically the dead end area) I went to check it out during the day and it seemed quiet. I'm active duty military and had to move out of my current apartment since the rent is way too high. SHL seemed to be the most reasonable place and closer to work. Please let me know what that block is like.

Thanks

I don't live in that end, but I have friends down there and they all have good comments about it. I think you will be happy there! Please consider attending one of our group meeting run by SHL residents on the last thursday of every month @ 6;30 @ elem school. One Greenbelt One Community!

SHL is a high crime area, maintenace department is inadequate, rental office people lazy and the walls are paper thin. Many individuals living in this community don't get and go to work in the morning so they stay up all night, thus keeping you up. You seem like a hard working individual that is looking for a place to sleep, eat and get up again. I wouldn't recommend this community at all! Since you are active military maybe you won't have to stick around the neighborhood long. I don't recommend it at all and I'm sure the response above came from someone who works for this communicty. Nonetheless, thank you for protecting our country and doing your civic duty. God Bless the men and women of the United States military.

I have lived near the dead end of Edmonston Road for 15 years or more. There will always be the good and the bad wherever you move. Crime is everywhere, not just at Springhill Lake like most individuals making comments would have you believe. When requesting service make sure you get name of individual you talk with. If not taken care of within a day or two, be consistent in requesting that it be done immediately. You will find there are always problems when renting, also individuals who make derogatory comments who have never lived here. Ignore those people and make your own decisions. Problems with crime, etc. are in all parts of Greenbelt, even in the areas where there are owner occupied homes. There are also many negative comments because of the racial makeup of the community, individuals have the tendency to stereotype those not like them. Always be aware of your surroundings no matter where you live. I enjoy living in this area, there are so many amenities and conveniences. You can find everything you need at the two malls, and you right at the beltway. Welcome. PS: the response from "justdtruth4u" does say he lives here, and I notice he comments on almost every review.

Happythoughts99, I am a previous tenant, as of the end of March, and I lived on Edmonston Road, in the back. That area and Breezewood Terrace, are known to be the better areas to live in SHL, per PG County Police. I was there for 2 yrs and had no issues. It's pretty quiet and well kept back there because staff lives back there as well. However, no matter what part of the complex you live in, the maintenance staff are all incompetent!! I think they just pick up guys from the side of the road and hire them!! You MUST stay on top of them, keep calling back to MAKE them come out!! The apartments are very old so I would suggest that you not live on the bottom level like I did because everything comes down to you (floods, leaks, etc.) Plus, the floors are paper thin and you can hear every little footstep, conversations, t.v and radios. The people who lived above me were very considerate, so I didn't have to complain but not everybody has that same consideration. It's true about the crime but it's everywhere...no matter where you go. Oh!! And the parking spaces...because they have over 3,000 apartments, the spaces are so close together that your doors WILL get banged up!! My suggestion...park on the side where noone is next to you. In case you are wondering, the reason I recently moved is because I couldn't see paying over $1400 for an apartment so I found a BEAUTIFUL townhouse in Howard County saving me over $400 per month!!! Good luck!!

I currently live at 9322 Edmonston Rd. You can read the review I have previously posted about these apartments to see the pros and cons. One thing I do have to say is that as you could probably tell there have been quite a few fires over here within the last year. 21 units were burnt out in December, including a friend of mines. We are also active duty military and yeah, the discount is good, but if you have children I don't think it's worth it. Where are you stationed? We are stationed at ONI and are moving to St. Charles in June. The rent is almost the same, but the place and area are SO MUCH better!

Thank you for all the information. I am stationed at Bolling AFB and I have been looking for a place on the MD side that was a bit closer to work...but, all the places that I saw were either too expensive or in not so great areas. Now...I'm a bit used to the "not so great areas" being that I grew up in NY. I don't expect the place to be heaven but, I'd at least want to be able to sleep at night, not wondering if my car was broken into...or if there will be a fire... And don't want to go to work and wonder if my house was broken into. I don't plan to be there long...maybe just 2 years (hopefully I'll be able to stand it) Well, thanks for all the info... (oh...and BTW, the place they gave me is on the 1st floor. Thanks for the heads up on the leaks!) Hopefully it won't be THAT bad.

I don't live near Edmonston Road but Springhill Lake is Springhill Lake, I have to agree with the writer justtd4u these comments has to be [posted by the employers because they are the ones that live there, SHL is a high crime area and that all, no one works because they are up selling drugs all night or going on Edmonston Road and stealing teh employers cars. I live here and I fear fear fear for my life!!! You are a military man so maybe you will be okay, but remember you get what you pay for. I will not advise you to move here..............

I am not an employee. I am surrently living at the end of Edmonston Rd. It is very quiet overthere. Ive lived there for about 4yrs and dont have any complaints. No where is perfect though. i wanted to move somewhere else but i couldnt find anywhere with the same space and price. The grounds are well kept compared to other areas ive visited. Maintenance to take a while to come around but considering the size of the complex i think they do well. We did have a rodent problem for a little while but that was fixed pretty quickly. I cant speak for the rest of the complex but this area is pretty low key.
