I have had to call the police several times since living there, it takes several weeks for maitenance to show up and they usually don't fix the problem, when I signed my lease they gave me the wrong lease twice, the electrical is shoddy, they paint over fixtures that are falling out of walls, there is little to no parking when I get home and the walls are paper thin.

This is so unfortunate but true when it comes to these apartments. Aimco is the worst management company around and SHL is the worst apartment complex in PG county.

You're right about AIMCO being complete and utter crap. However, they just changed owners so now some company called Empire American Holdings owns them now. Perhaps they'll fix the place, perhaps they wont.

The only way to fix Springhill Lake is to tear it down and rebuild it

AIMCO tried to put into operation their plans to renovate this property, but many obstacles were in their way, so I am assuming they decided it was more financialy responsible to sell the property. I attended many meetings concerning renovation and was quite hopeful they would succeed, but apparently the great minds could not agree. Springhill Lake is prime property in Greenbelt and centrally located to everything offered here. Hopefully the new owners will bring everything up to standard and give it the glory that it commanded, many, many years ago.

I am beginning to research the new management company and it could go either way. Empirian has properties in many states and some of the properties seem to be plagued with some of the same problems we are having. The BBB has in some states given them "satisfactorily" reviews and other not, so we will have to wait and see. I would like to encourage/challenge us as tenants to begin to ask questions (specific) and set some expectations because after all we paid their salaries and while I know if two or three move it wouldn't hurt, but it shoud send a message to them they we have some expectations from them as they except us to pay rent on time. Look then up on the web and find out as much as we can about them so we can speak directly to issues concerning these properties and how this one will be different.

Nothing will take place unless we do it in writing! We can call and complain all day but until our complaints and there inadequacies are brought to their attention in writing (and by certified mail), nothing will happen.
