I hate these apartments! The staff is rude, ghetto, and extremely unprofessional. When we first moved in last year, we asked if the carpet could be changed and they told us no. It's unsanitary to keep sharing carpet. It should always be changed before the new resident moves in. The carpet looks like it has never been replaced and all they do is steam clean it and hope that it will take the stains out. These apartments are moldy and mildewy. We had a flood from the apartment above us and they still refused to change the carpet. They just had someone come and dry it out and spray chemicals on it, and paint over the water stains on the wall. The overweight ghetto manager wanted to argue over the phone with me about it, and I asked if these apartments were really going to be that cheap and never change the carpet, and she told me "YES" and hung up the phone. Then at what point does the carpet ever get changed'!
Next, we had a termite infestation and it took them 2 WEEKS to do something about it!!! I called the coorporate office and the lady there said she would follow up on it, and I don't believe her pea brained incompetent staff were reminded that customer service is lacking. I don't think she did anything about them, but if she did, good. I ASKED THE LADY AT THE COORPORATE OFFICE IF SHE READ APARTMENT RATINGS.COM AND SHE SAID THEY ACTUALLY TAKE A LOOK AT IT!!!! WELL I HOPE YOU'RE READING THIS AND WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF AT THE RENTAL OFFICE!!!!
I honestly think they just don't care about their residents. These buildings are old and need to be renovated. There is always the smell of natural gas everywhere. These apartments need to be renovated and updated. I can't wait until our lease is up. The Fire Dept. needs to come and do an inspection to make sure everyone's gas is working properly. We even had a gas leak from the stove and the emergency maintenance took all day to come fix it.
Again, THESE APARTMENTS ARE HORRIBLE, DIRTY, MOLDY, MILDEWY, AND THE STAFF SUCK! MANAGEMENT IS TERRIBLE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED!

I know nothing about this place, I'm just considering the rental. But this particular review seems to undermine itself.
If i may, you get better service with honey than lye. And, honestly, NO apartment management company, especially at this bargain rate, is going to change the carpet between each rental. That's just silly. The expense would be outrageous, especially considering college town turnover.
The staff may have their issues, but i've found that most staffers/management people at the places i've rented (none remotely fancy) have been perfectly responsive, capable and polite given courtesy, patience and, I dunno, an ounce of human kindness. Response on the termites seems appropriate, given they probably had to do a survey of how far the infestation spread, bid a contractor and schedule an appointment. As for the follow up? If they got the treatment evident here, i can understand if they punted. Mildew? That does suck, but it comes with the territory in renting old places, I'm afraid. Especially in the bathroom. At least they sprayed chemicals to kill the growth and painted over the stain. Textbook. Aside from that, there's little to be done aside from gutting the affected areas and rebuilding. That stuff doesn't die easy. But the mildew, at least in the bathrooms, will come right back if successive tenants don't tend to their own responsibility of cleaning. That makes it very difficult to justify such extremes, unless, of course, the 'dew is all-pervasive.
Gas leak? The smell of gas in your apartment probably means (99% certain) a pilot is out on your stove or your gas furnace (if you have one). It happens. Just make the call as soon as you smell it. Same-day response is pretty good, considering how many directions they're being pulled on a given day. (If you still smell it, be sure to request further investigation by maintenance. At my last apartment, the furnace had rusted out and dropped pieces onto the burner, causing unburned gas to build up and shoot fireballs at the back of our utility closet door.)
Apartment living, especially at these rates, is a little messy. Older buildings, such as this seems to be, are gonna have plenty of downs. But that's reality my friend. Trust me: You seem to have a better situation than you realize, especially compared to some of the holes around here.
Sorry, but this is reality my (freshman?) friend. We can't all start out in the Camden.

Well, we can agree to disagree. These apartments are still horrible and just because it's an older place doesn't give the right for the staff to be so unprofessional. If they need someone to be sweet like "honey" toward them just to give good customer service, they shouldn't be working in this field. Since the rental staff has "issues" as you say, I suggest the owner do something to not let the "issues" linger on.
We had problems with our heat and it took maintenance 4 tries to fix it. Sometimes they don't show up, or they don't leave a note, even if a request was submitted days in advance. Who wants "TEXTBOOK" service, half as**ng the job! When there is a flood, change the d*mn carpet if that's what it takes to make your customer happy! As for the termites, maybe one or two days could have been tolerated to wait for someone to come out, but living with flying termites for 2 weeks, come on, that's outrageous! You sound like you work for these apartments! MANAGEMENT SHOULD MAKE SURE THE BATHROOM IS FREE OF MOLD AND MILDEW BEFORE THE NEW TENANT MOVES IN! THE NEW TENANT SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CLEAN UP AFTER PREVIOUS RESIDENTS! THE MOLD AND MILDEW IS SO BAD THAT EVEN AFTER WE BLEACH OUR BATHROOM, IT COMES RIGHT BACK! WHY DON'T YOU COME DOWN AND SCRUB IT FOR THE RESIDENTS SINCE YOU SEEM TO KNOW BEST?! You try living here and you'll see what I mean. We've been living here for almost a year, and I wouldn't recommend anyone staying longer than that or at all.
We are getting a brand new house, and never looking back at this hell hole. If you are a college student, you should look else where.

I agree University Square Manager is rude, very unprofessional. One thing I will not tolerate is a person who talk smart with attitude and try and out talk you. And then turn around feed bullsh.. to you. Now I don't expect carpet to be change with each move. But, if carpet is thin, stain or damaged in any way it should be changed. Also, when you move out which I have never heard of, one has to clean/shampoo carpet and once you do this, University Square still charge you for the damage to whatever, after it has been report before hand. Management sucks. University Square want you to clean/shampoo carpet which will save them energy and time, so it will not come out of their pockets. Now what do you think about that. Oh also, the blinds are very cheap, just like paper will tear easily. If you are a month to month tenant be aware, because you will have to replace. I do believe new management needs to take over and get rid of the manager that is there now. She's a real b.
