The ladies who work there have no idea about what they are doing. I don't think they are even qualified to do the job.
Let me tell you an incident. I happen to talk to Keyona , one of the ladies who work at the leasing office, about the bug problem at our place. She said she will ask the pest control people to come and fix our problem. She gave me a specific date. We vacated out kicthen as per the directions but no one turned up. When we called back and checked with her , she said she gave the other date and I got it worng, though i had it written on the piece of paper she gave me. Anyways so she gave me another date.
But on a contrary the pest control people came a day before the date given to us and sprayed the entire kitchen without removing anything (we ended up throwing all the adible stuff we had). Plus they left us a notice asking us to pay the fine because we didnt follow the directions. When we went to the leasing office to complain about it, we met Ms Dalecia, the assitant manager, who said I am not Keyona, I don't know what she told you. You have to pay the fine because it was you who asked for it, and you didnt follow the directions. We were left completely oblivious. We had to eventually pay the fne.
And the spraying thing didnt really help either. So, we went again to ask for a better treatment. For which Ms Dalecia told us that they can't do anything more than what they had already done. And that we should ourselves be resposible and keep the apartment clean like she does to her apartment (she forgot that she doesn't live in university square- another name for roach world)
She infact ended up suggesting us to buy roach traps and other things. When we said that the managemnet should pay for this. She said they won't and it's not mentioned in the contract that management has to take care of the bug problem and that they did us a GREAT FAVOR by doing whatever they had done so far.

EVERYONE who works there is so rude and harsh. They start shouting at you even if it's their mistake. They are completely indecent and unprofessional. In short a bunch of IDIOTS (including the manager)

I wish I could move out but I am stuck with a year's lease.

I totally agree with this. These people are very rude... Property manager (Lisa) is a bit understanding and knows the rules (although very very arrogant), but other than her no body has any clue of what they are doing... They will create new rules on the fly, which of course everyone forgets (including them) and you end up paying fines... Best thing is to get it written and signed by them on a piece of paper (with date)... although there is no guarantee that they will accept it later! U Sq leasing office is a weird illogical world!

I too agree here.. they are bunch of complete IDIOTS.. I do not know why Lerner's corporation can not find better staff there.. And yes, its the best to take everything in writing from them, as they do not know the rules at all.. I have also ended up paying more money because of their negligence..

The problem is also from Lerner's corporation. I used to write to Lerner's and nobody answer at all. So, seems that Lerner's as a whole really does not care, no wonder U Square is like this...

I am truly saddened to see the reviews that have been coming from University Square lately. I moved into the property in 1986 and loved the front office staff and property so much I stayed for over 10 years. Left for 3 years and moved back in for another 4 years. When I did have a serious problem, and received no satisfaction, I called the city of Greenbelt and got some attention. I suggest some sort of tenant association legal action. You do have rights. Check out your options.

I have lived at University Square for 5 years now. I must say the staff is better than when I moved in. I've had numerous exterminations, and I haven't been ready for a couple of them. I've never been charged.I see that on the letters they send out before the service though. Anyway I dont have a problem with the staff they are nice to me. Maybe you act a certain way to them? In turn they yell at you?

Well... I agree too... they are not really understanding. I moved out 8 months ago. At the moment I moved out, I wanted to pay for the cleaning of the carpet but I had $100 credit on their account. So I asked the lady if it was possible to use this money to pay for the cleaning (and the last water bill). She called someone else on the phone, it seems the other said "yes" and I went away. What a mistake!!! I should have asked her to write me a note about that with her signature! Two months later, they send me a mail charging me $65 because I did not pay on time for the carpet cleaning! We went to USquare to complain. Another lady told me "it is not possible, everyone here knows the policy and you had to pay". She did not want to believe me. I had a witness of what happened when I moved out and after 20 minutes arguing I wanted to pay (well... it would have been stupid from me not to, coz they already had some money from me on their account!!!), she looked at me with arrogance and told the other "well, ok, let them go, it's ok if she does not pay for that". We went away. And you know what? I received another mail 2 weeks ago... I still have to pay the $65! So, I'll go again to complain... Anyway, I have to admit that I liked this place, it is ok. It is safe (there must be a police man living in the area because we had a police car parked all the time in the street), close to the old Greenbelt, really convenient with the buses and so on, calm. Well, everything depends on the neighbors you have so I will not talk about mine, I could have found worst or better, especially better when the neighbor above my apartment was cleaning her birds cages and throwing away the dirty water over the balcony (just on my terrace... where I was drinking a tea...). The gas system is pretty old, I had my pilot switched off at least one or two times per month. But they were pretty nice and efficient with that (they were probably scared that could explode, I guess... lol). I had some few roaches, especially at Fall, but it was one or two every two weeks. Not a big thing. The extermination was efficient also. Now, I have to move at the end of summer and looking at the price, it is really too expensive for a 2-bedroom so I guess I will not come back there again. If it was less expensive, I would have be back.

I know that University Square needs to change the advertising on what they have on the property. Such as there is NO Full body fitness center, NO clubroom w/kitchen and NO large screen TV. This is false advertisment. Suggest owner of University Square of Greenbelt clean this up or face a lawsuit.

I have been living at University Square for 3 months now and when I say I hate this place it is an understatement. When I did my walk through I saw a roach and I requested for them to experminate. Maybe a week or two after that date I did another request. I have placed moth balls throughtout my whole apartment and sprayed Raid throughtout my whole apartment. I have requested once again for my apartment to be exterminated as well as the entire building. This is the funny thing that makes no sence to me at all. They only spray the kitchen and the bathroom. If it appears that the entire building has roaches why would you just do the kitchen and the bathroom only. I called the rental office to voice my opinion and they said well we will do the bedrooms too. Then when the notice came out for my building they are only doing the kitchen's and bathroom's throughtout the building and doing my entire apartment. I am still confused. How will that solve the problem. I have lived at two other apartment complex's and have never had roaches, NEVER had roaches. So I am going to let them exterminate and when I see another roach that is where I will take actions into my own hand. I have given them the opportunity to correct the problem. We need to start to stand up for our rights because as the earlier post stated we do have them we just need to educate ourselves and use them. We pay our money and should not be treated any kind of way. I refuse to live with roaches. I have not been living with them and I am not giong to start. They will fix the problem or I will by removing myself from the problem the legal way. I have not encounted anyone that has been unprofessional to me thus far and the minute I do it will be addressed and documented, so I really have no complaints there. However, I hate the noise level in my apartment as well. I already had to complain two times on my neighbors and the rental office informed me that the tenants who lived there prior to me complained as well. I can hear my neighbors tv and conversation as if it is in my apartment. Moving to University Square has been one of the worse experience in my life thus far.

I've live at University square for under 1 year and my experience has been unforgettable. Apart from the bugs, and noise from above residents. I have a problem with the resident manager Carl is a DUMB ASS. He refuses to respond to resident concerns instead he takes the decisions of his GED staff. I'm glad that TASHA UNGLY EASLY is GONE she was a BIG ----- and NASTY to the residents who pays her salary. She was getto and rude. I'm looking for a change but it starts with that resident manager getting fired for his incompetency and poor staffing matrix. The false advertisement is a major issue indeed. When is it ok to advertise a gym that does not exist? I recently meet with the new property manager (pregnant women) and she seems so professional and compassionate. SAY NO TO CARL - the resident manager who is an unapproachable PIG HEAD! Bye see ya in school...

I am happy to say that I don't live at University Square and I thank God for that! I actually went through with paying my security deposit and first month's rent and 10 minutes after I signed my lease, I went to inspect the apartment, it was totally roach infested! It was the worst I'd ever seen. The incompetent, heartless staff told me to get some bombs and drop them before I move in. I did and when I went back to drop the bombs, the kitchen was covered with roaches that the bathroom would soon be covered as well. EVERY room in the apartment had roaches. It was ridiculous. I told them that there was no way that I could move into that apartment especially since my kids have asthma and are allergic to roaches. They told me to bring them a doctor's note and that the only way I could be let out of the lease was to pay another month's rent. Why in the hell would I pay rent for a place that I've never moved into? Then they told me that since I signed the lease I had to honor it. OK, fine, give me another unit, I said. After a weeks of going back and forth with them, I found that they were trying to make me honor the lease but the lease was never fully executed on their part because "they didn't know what I was going to do." I forgot to mention that they never even gave me a copy of the lease, so when I requested a copy to give to my attorney, that's when I found that it was not even signed by the resident manager or anyone else at University Square. However, they still would not give me my money back or let me out of the lease. I ended up filing a complaint, obtaining an attorney and contacting the corporate office. After going back and forth with them, they told me that they had another unit for me, but when I saw and agreed to take it, I went back into the office and was told that I could not have the unit and that the leasing agent "had no business even showing me the unit." After 2 1/2 months of this crap, they eventually gave me my money back minus fees and I was done. As I look at these comments I realize that they basically have a roach problem which is very unfortunate because the apartments are really nice and very spacious. As a matter of fact, they are extremely similar to my old apartment in Laurel, but I didn't have any roaches there! And for the money that you pay in rent, you shouldn't have to live with roaches especially since they (the roaches) don't pay rent. This place is very unprofessional and unsanitary!
