This place is a mouse and roach motel. I called twice about the mouse problem - the first time, they supposedly came out and sprayed, but the mice never went away. The 2nd time, no one ever came out. I bombed the house with Raid to get rid of the roaches, and within weeks, they came back again. You can't get rid of mice or roaches unless you bomb the entire building... if you don't, they just run to another apartment until the poison clears out.
Maintenance is a joke - I wasn't even allowed to inspect my apartment until the day I moved in. I had a list of about 15-20 small things that needed to be fixed, and it took them a month to get around to fixing a single thing (that was after calling and pestering them 5 days in a row, until they got tired of hearing me complain). Maintenance come and go as they please, sometimes even without the management's approval (there was at least one instance where I had a note on my door that they had been there, no evidence of any work done, and when I asked management why they were in my apartment, they had no documentation to prove they had been there).
I share a hot water heater with 5 other apartments in the building, and never have enough to last longer than a 10-15 minute shower.
The noise level is insane - At any given time of day, I can hear loud bass thumping through the floor, ceiling, and sometimes even coming from 2 apartments away from me in the next building. The only response I get from management for complaining is when they post letters to our doors threatening eviction if the noise continues, but no action is taken, EVER.
In the last few months of my lease, I was having trouble finding parking spots in front of my apartment. I know which cars belong to my neighbors, but there were several cars that I would see parked directly in front of my building that I did not recognize, or would only show up every 2 weeks or so. I knew that these cars were probably friends and/or family visiting, but would have appreciated if my neighbors would've asked their guests to park in the overflow. When I called to ask the rental staff if they could send out a letter, asking everyone to be courteous to their neighbors with the parking situation, I was told that they do not assign parking spaces, so there was nothing they could do. My mother lives in a townhome community in Catonsville, and while they also have the same policy, they often send out reminders in their newsletters, politely asking their tenants to have their guests park in overflow as a courtesy to their neighbors. I explained this to the rental staff, and still they refused. If I'm paying rent, I should not have to park my car elsewhere, and yield the property I pay for each month to someone who doesn't live here.
During the fall, leaves were strewn all over the courts, to the point where the curb was buried at the entrance to my court. I called the rental office to report this, and they stated that they "have the leaf blowers come in and do everything in one foul swoop"... Interpretation: They're cheap and don't want to pay more money for their tenants' safety. A similar situation occurred when heavy ice and snow accumulated on the sidewalks and steps up to the building. If you have 4-wheel drive, you'll be fine during the winter months... otherwise, you're screwed.
Drug busts on the street corners are a weekly occurance, and fire trucks, ambulances, and search helicopters are spotted at least twice a month. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. And judging by almost all of the other reviews for this complex, neither would anyone else.
I'm done with Sawyer Realty. Gwynn Oaks Landing - Don't be surprised if you get a call from the Health Department when all is said and done.
