I moved here from the other side of the country so I had to do all my research online. When I asked about safety they told me that police officers received a discount for living there and that it was near security square. Security Square is a mall. (Also a place where people can pick up their social security check, but in no way any type of facility that would make you safer). But since I was on a serious budget and it was surrounded by parks I figured it would be ok. Other people have been complaining about the mice and the bugs - we had a few mice, and the exterminator came, but eventually I got a cat and I haven't seen any mice since. The bugs are there from time to time, but can be avoided with frequent cleaning and keeping certain types of food in the fridge. I have considered moving out numerous time - my car has been vandalized, my roommates car was broken into, my car was ticketed for being parked facing the wrong way on the street, the 10 other cars on the street weren't, gangs of neighborhood boys terrorize everyone and are extremely rude, they have shot fireworks at my truck (which they also like to lay on, fight on and throw things at). People are pretty disrespectful and it can be pretty loud at night, especially in the summer. The neighborhood isn't very safe - since I lived here there's been a homicide in one of the Windsor Forest Buildings, I've heard gunshots numerous times, I've had to call the police about a half dozen times - although if you call 311 you're unlikely to get a response. Some pizza places won't deliver to the complex after dark. The people at the maintenance office have been polite and usually quick to respond to a complaint. In the summer I always saw a grounds crew picking up trash in the mornings, although people dump so much crap in the streets it's hard for them to keep up. Basically - don't live here - unless you have to - and if you do keep looking for somewhere else the entire time you're here - and invest in earplugs, a cat and a bullet proof vest.
