Could not wait to leave!

I lived here with my boyfriend for one year. We were just starting out and made a little bit over the poverty line and really couldn't afford anything else. This place was horrific and we began counting down the days until our lease was over after the first 2 weeks. The model apartment we were shown looked great and since it was late morning in the middle of the week, the community was quiet. They refused to show us the unit we would be renting so we took a bit of a gamble there.

Random, but important fact you should know about the construction of this complex: they were intended as short term housing for WWII vets and their families, never to be still in use 50 years later.

When we moved in, there was a new water heater which sprung a leak after just 5 months and was replaced with an equally cheap new water heater which suprisingly lasted through the end of our lease. We were also assured over and over that our unit would have central A/C because "all of our units have A/C". Guess what our unit did not have' They also gave us hell when we put window units in and did eventually install the cheapest central air system they could find...which didn't work and was never adequately repaired no matter how much we complained. We wound up relying on our window units in the summer and got stuck using space heaters in the winter because they would not fix the thermostat.

The noise level was terrible, this place is NOT up to date on fire code regulations. There is nothing between you and your neighbors except for a thin layer of drywall and if your neighbors are ever quiet, you can hear their neighbors on the other side. There are also several known drug dealers in residence here who sit outside their front doors openly dealing. Management knows about the problem but refuses to do anything about it while the police just throw up their arms. The area is also prone to roving packs of high school students who have a bad habit of getting into huge fist fights (guns included) of 50 people at all hours of the day and night.

Don't even think about ever being able to open your blinds, thick curtains are also a necessity unless you want to be sitting at your kitchen table one day and see a gangbanger trying to peek around the blinds. Also don't ever even think about leaving your door unlocked while you run to the car to grab the rest of your groceries, I did it just ONE time and some random man OPENED MY DOOR AND WALKED RIGHT IN.

Parking is also a nightmare. The office would not give me a permit because my father's name was still jointly on my title. My boyfriend couldn't get a permit either because he had just moved from out-of-state. His car was successfully broken into the second week after we moved in and mine was damaged in a break-in attempt after a few months and it wasn't unusual for us to look out our windows and see someone peeking in car windows and testing door locks.

People here also love to let their dogs run wild and steal your trash can. We were also told that there are laundry facilities but we never found them.

We only paid $660/month for a one bedroom and when we were moving out, they offered us 3 months of free rent with a rate reduction down to $500/month after that. Truth be told, they could have paid me and I wouldn't have renewed the lease.

The silver lining' We didn't have any roaches or mice in our unit although I hear that they are a serious problem in others.
