I moved here in September without seeing the apartment I ended up renting. When I visited, I remember noticing how spotless the halls were. (Living here now for a few months, the halls look like that *every day.* They really make an effort to keep the grounds clean.) The residents who stopped into the rental office while I was inquiring about the apartment seemed happy. Despite the high traffic through the office that day, not one tenant came in with a complaint. One guy even said to me, "This is a great place to live."

He was right. I've been pretty happy here so far. My one-bedroom apartment has a a washer and dryer in the unit and a private balcony with outdoor storage space. These are extras I've never had before and very much appreciate.

Maintenance is great. I called twice for minor things (fluorescent bulbs were out, etc) and they took care of everything immediately (same day, if not within minutes of my call). There's always a parking spot when I come home late and I always feel safe everywhere on the grounds.

As for the construction, right now I would rate the property at three stars only because some things could stand to be updated--the beige color scheme and cabinets look a little dated, but the carpet and linoleum are nice and appear to be new. Daniel's Run plans to update the tenants' cabinets in the near future, so credit must be given to the property managers for the effort they make to keep their tenants happy. Jessica and Orin, the property management staff are great. They're professional, friendly, and committed to keeping their tenants happy. I've especially been impressed with how they seem to know everyone's name. I doubt many managers of larger properties pull *that* off.

In my case, noise is a problem. Although I never see my neighbors and the halls tend to be dead-silent whenever I come home, I have one of the noisy neighbors who is making me consider giving the gift of sound-absorbing foam for Christmas. In general though, the people who live here are generally very nice and considerate.

As for security, DR really has it covered. My place has an alarm system and even a panic button. Most properties wouldn't bother offering that level of security. Despite how safe I feel here, I'm guessing that Adelphi and Hyattsville are shady in some parts (like any city). I moved here from a large city and did my apartment shopping via Internet. If you read reviews of many other apartments in this area / the DC-Metro area, you'll find plenty of comments about rats, roaches, mice, assaults, drug deals going down, and cops chasing crackheads across the grass just like on television. You'll see none of that here. This truly is a great place to live. I hope to stay here until I buy.
