Advised to Keep looking

I moved in April of this year on a special for $835 for a junior 2 bdrm. I thought this would be the perfect place to live considering the location, the amount for rent, the fact that I have a balcony, the grounds are always clean, and the rental office staff seemed to be pretty nice and professional. . .that was in April. It is now December.

Prior to moving in, I asked the rental agent, (Michelle) if Cheverly Crossing had any rodent or pest problems. Of course she replied no. My husband and I had to bomb the place for 5 days straight before moving our stuff in. Roaches came out of the wood works. (literally)

When my family first moved in, we realized that there were teenagers hanging out at our front door smoking weed, leaving trash in the hallway, and just being loud and disrespectful. We called the rental office and they informed us that they were aware of the situation and in the event it happens again, call the police. After me and several neighbors calling the police on several occasions, the disturbance finally stopped.

Now we are dealing with the issue of people breaking into cars. In September, my husband's car was broken into. Before we even knew the car was broken into, the tow truck company had towed the car. They said that the parking sticker was missing. My husband's driver's side window was knocked out, and that was the only thing we saw of the vehicle the morning of. I had to call the police and have the police go down to the rental office with me in order to get his car back, because they told me also that they had nothing to do with it and the police authorized the tow truck dirver to take the car. The police informed both me and the apartment complex that they would do no such thing. They have their own tow truck company, so if they were going to authorize anything, the would have towed the vehicle.
After me raising hell in the rental office he got his car back without him having to pay to get it out, but we still had to pay for the wind shield and we both missed a day off from work. The funny thing is, out of all of the expensive belongings that were in the car at the time, the only thing that was gone was the parking pass. (think about it)

My car was almost stolen last night. A neighbor let me know that she saw men at about 4am, but my alarm scared them off. When I got to my car this morning, my driver's side lock had been completely pulled out. My neighbor informed me that they tried to steal her car last month. The apartment complex won't do anything about it, but pays the tow truck company to tow residents' cars.

The walls are very thin. I know what time the neighbor in the next building wakes his kids up every morning.

The dryer in the basement has been broken for the last 4 months. They gave us a key card to access the laundry room, but the laundry room has been opened since I have been there for anyone to go inside since I moved in. People also go into the laundry room to smoke weed, have sex, whatever.

Pros:
The grounds are kept pretty clean, there is always enough parking, it would be very quiet in the area if the walls weren't so thin, neighbors are pretty friendly, and the rent is a okay price for this area.

Cons:
If you have a car is it most likely to get stolen, broken into, and then towed. The walls are pretty thin and you can here a lot between what is going on next door, next building or for that matter downstairs. The rental office "professionals" aren't professional. Safety is an issue. If you do not like roaches I advise that you bomb the place until you don't see any more prior to moving in. (Also use boric acid.) They do allow you to keep pets, but there is a non-refundable $200 deposit plus an additional $20.00 per month. They have had the water turned off on at least 6 occasions for a week at a time to work on it. (during business hours though) My rent will go up to $900.00 per month for my unit.

Honestly, if you want to stick to a certain amount of rent and stay in the Prince Georges county area, this would probably be OKAY. I would highly advise that you continue to look. Do not let the first impression of this place make your decision. Check crime reports, ask the neighbors how they like living here, etc. Trust me, if the people weren't either settled or could afford something else, they would move. It may be your best interest to pay a little extra for a safer environment.
