Do not live here.My boyfriend and I chose this apartment because it was affordable and accessible to the University of Maryland.

Unfortunately, the close proximity came at a cost.We pay $700 for a 1 bedroom, but it has been nothing but a HUGE headache for the 5 months we've been here.

The maintenance crew are slow to come, if at all.And when they do show up, they do the minimal amount of work resulting in shoddy repairs that don't last.

My boyfriend's CD player was stolen from his car in the parking lot. Some idiot drove into my car as I was parking. The neighbors have no respect for their living environment-- they constantly break the lock on the main building door leaving the individual units vulnerable to anyone who opens the main door, they throw their trash out on the courtyard and in the building stairwells, they blast music at ungodly hours of the day (e.g. 6 a.m. on a Saturday), they cannot seem to park their cars straight (i.e. in between the white lines) and they loiter everywhere at ALL hours of the day. They only recently hired a security service, but it is only an untrained layman circling the complex in their car every few hours. Most of the time they are sitting in the leasing office. It is NOT a safe environment, especially if you will be living alone.

First, there were a few roaches.Nothing a little Raid couldn't handle. Now there are mice. We've caught a total of 5 -- two in one day and another the next! When we told the management office about the first mouse MONTHS ago, they threw us a few sticky traps and said they'd send an exterminator out.Well, when he came, all he did was spray roach repellant and throw another sticky trap behind the stove. It did little to solve the problem.

Our refrigerator, which was clearly dated, began leaking shortly after we moved here. Maintenance told us it drained through the back of it, and we needed to keep the drain hole clear. Well, we did that and it still leaked ... for another two months. Finally, they gave us another refrigerator -- from our recently-moved neighbors. Now, out of nowhere, we've got roaches everywhere! I KNOW that is not sanitary, and I know it's not fair. I've worked very hard to keep our unit clean and free of vermin, but because of the management's laziness and attempts to cut corners, we now have what I can only consider a roach infestation.

We're at our wit's end, and it seems that the management office does not care. They "say" they'll work on solving our problems, but I do not believe them. All we wanted was an affordable, semi-safe place to rest our heads and do our homework. Not only is the area unsafe, but the neighbors' disregard for the privacy and right to quiet prevents us from getting our work done.

Please do not choose University City Apartments; despite it's proximity to campus and affordable price, you'll end up paying a lot more in anguish if you choose to sign a lease with this Scott Management property.

I think the best thing for you to do is to try to get out of your lease, It might cost you some money but most people do it if they are very unhappy with their apartments.

If the place is that infested with roaches/mice you can call the county and have them assist you with breaking your lease with no cost to you. May be a little time consuming and you may have to jump through some hoops but it will definitely be worth it!
