Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I have lived here for just over a year (since Sept. 2008). I actually really like living here. It's very close to where I work in Columbia without the Columbia prices. Plus, it's close to Rt 32, Rt 1, and Snowden River Pkwy.
I've only had one major maintenance issue earlier this year in early March. My heat stopped working. I called emergency maintenance and they responded fairly quickly (had to call second telephone to get a response). The emergency maintenance wasn't able to fix the problem that night, but they put in a service request for my HVAC unit to be fixed ASAP. It was promptly fixed the next day. They also brought me a space heater so I could stay warm for the night. Although, the space heater was old and drew so much current, it kept tripping the circuit breaker. So I couldn't even use it. Good thing I had my own modern space heater. I use it to keep my electricity bill down in the winter since the unit is all electric.
The grounds are kept quite clean. Most trash left on the ground is gone within a day. They used to have recycling bins but were mysteriously removed in the spring and never returned. It's a bummer because recycling is important to me.
During the summer months, the teenagers of the complex can be a bit annoying with the noise late into the evening, especially on the weekend. The cops have been called a few times but it was never anything major. I have never seen anything illegal happen here. I don't have bad, noisy neighbors either. I live on the second floor, so I can hear movement, TVs, and music from time to time from both upstairs and downstairs. However it's never outrageous and never during hours when people are normally asleep. They do accept subsidized housing vouchers but that hasn't seemed to affect the community negatively.
The staff is great! Mark (the manager) has been there for years and knows most everyone's face in the complex and what building you live in. He's always willing to help when needed and he's super nice. He gave me a welcome mat and some cleaning products when I moved in. Jamie (the assistant manager) and grounds staff are all really nice and helpful as well. The complex does have a pool and hosts an annual complex wide pool party in the summer which is really fun.
Parking is always available plus there are no restrictions. So any visitors don't have to worry about their vehicle getting towed.
I am considering moving but only because the rent went up from $999 to $1020 per month after a year. I decided not to sign another year lease and have a month to month, so I pay $1079 per month. That's not crazy expensive for a one bed/one bath apartment, but too expensive when you're trying to save to buy a house.
Hope this helps someone...happy hunting!
