My husband and I lived at the Ivy Club for two years in a 1bdr plus den and then in a 2bdrm. We moved to MD from GA and were shocked at the prices of the apartments in the area. We ended up finding the Ivy Club by accident, but the price and style fit exactly what we needed. I felt very secure at Ivy Club, although the Ivy Club has some sketchy townhomes behind it, I always felt safe, even more so than at my new apartment. Ivy Club is one of the few gated apartments that I was able to find and the arm gate actually stays down unlike many other apartments I've lived at. Also, they have a gate guard, he's no super cop, but its enough to make me feel secure and he walks the complex every few hours too. Also, every building has secured entry and all doors are deadbolted, sometimes it felt like a prison, but I loved the security over all. I actually felt safe walking around at night within the complex.
Next, its located next to a nice, well kept shopping plaza with several restaurants and a movie theater. There are also some clothing stores, no major fashion outlets, other than Ann Taylor Loft though.
Parking was good, visitors have designated parking which I like because you don't have to worry about them taking residents parking spots and they enforce towing strictly if you do not have a car sticker.
The grounds were always clean and well kept. They even re-tarred the parking lot and frequently repainted doors and rails when I lived there so I can tell they cared a lot about the cleanliness of their buildings.
Maintenance was always timely in fixing things. The worst are those rinky dink washer/dryer combos, ours had a few problems but they were always timely in fixing it.
Also, because these apartments have no pool or amenities, we had free passes for the splex Gym and swimming pool down the street. Which is far nicer than what you'll see at any apartment complex.
We also never had any problems with noise or bugs. We did have some neighbors down stairs, who used to smoke weed and you could smell it in the hall on occasion, but the management actually sent everyone a letter to let them know they would call the police if said persons did not cease and desist. You could tell that most of the people were educated or at least they gave that appearance, because I never had any issues with ghetto behavior really.
The major downsides are that these apartments are small (but big in comparison to other more expensive apartments), there is no balcony, you have to get cable --no satellites, the management office closes at 5pm so they can be hard to contact. They did also charge us almost $100 when we moved out for some things we thought that were rather silly. Overall I loved it, Ivy Club was one of best apartments I have ever lived in. Management does change often, but I hope they continue to keep these apartments up to the standard they were in when I lived there.
