A business deal went bad and I ended up looking for an inexpensive place to live while I recouped. When I say recoup, I mean recoup. I lost almost everything. I am talking 7 years of recovery broke and dealing with it. Well I thought I had found the place I needed 3 years ago with Kent village. WRONG!! Like every one else who comes to Kent Village, I needed to save money. The leasing staff pulled a little bait and switch and the next thing you know I was a townhouse resident.
I had no problem with the community children until management prevented the children from playing on the playground by erecting an 8'fence. As far as the behavior of my neighbors, I have found them to be good neighbors with the exception of a few guys who throw their car trash in the parking lot. But you will always find a few trifling people everywhere.
All the trouble comes from management and it's neglect of property, unresponsiveness to residents and contractor behavior. There are cracks everywhere. The place is so drafty that you can expect to spend at least $550.00/mo during the winter just to remain cold in a two-bedroom unit. Thank God for sweaters and flannel. I don't have roaches, but the ants and spiders have taken up residence in my flowerpots and this year I have noticed them marching out of the walls. The cats are completely out of control. They jump from the dumpster and frighten you. They wake you in the night with their love songs and use the property as their own personal litter box. Management allows them to breed and run rampant to save on rodent extermination. Under my kitchen sink has leaked the entire time I have been here even after being repaired once a year. I have had water leak into my kitchen light from the poor upstairs plumbing. I have had to contact Property Standards just to get the trash and stagnant water removed from under the townhouse. I have had my rent placed in escrow by the courts to get repairs made.
Yes, there is a Peeping Tom. Yes, the Property Manager will avoid you. Yes, management will tell you to keep your windows open in the winter to stop the growth of mold. Yes, lies will be told to you. Yes, things will be left in disrepair for a long long long time. Yes, your car may be towed without provocation. And yes, the weed smoking, chicken bone throwing security force will harass residents while avoid confrontation with trespassers. But ... it is the cheapest place in town. If you are desperate enough to save money and resourceful enough to keep your sanity, you might be able to stand it for a few years. Otherwise, DON"T DO IT !!!
