Not bad for a new mom

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008

I've been living in Kent Village ever since September 2007. I live on the first floor in the garden style apartment complex. Now as a new mom, I honestly don't have a problem where I'm located. I can walk across the street to the A12 bus stop to connect me to Landover Metro. Sometimes I walk to Landover Metro which is about a 15 minute walk, no biggie. (Although, Kent Village did exaggerate on the 'One Block to Metro' thing.) As I walk to the metrobus, I can also walk to Kent Village Shopping Center across the street to go to Family Dollar, Checkers, Chinese Food, and the cleaners. When you go down Landover Rd. you'll pass an International Food Market, Giant, CVS, KFC, post office, McDonalds, Popeye's, and a bank which is great if you don't have a car.

My neighbors in the building are quiet and don't bother no one, we stay to ourselves. I'm really surprised to witness the fact that I have NOT seen any mice/mouse/rats or roaches in my apartment! I have seen only about 4 waterbugs come into my house through the AC/Heat vent. (That will happen most likely in the summer, since waterbugs love cold environments and people will be blasting their A/C.) The only thing I've been hearing lately in the middle of the night are gun shots ONCE IN A BLUE, which you can tell are kind of far away but the echoes of a gunshot can wake you up. I usually see police patroling around here, so I'm not worried, since I am a Native New Yorker and I'm use to environments like this.

The leasing staff are great, have'nt had a problem with them at all. They are professional and they listen to your problems. We have community meetings, contests that children can enter and be involved with the community, and even movie nights.

As for parking, it gets pretty crowded and visitors must have a parking pass or they will get towed. All I have to say is pay your rent by the 1st of each month so you won't get a court order on your door the next day for not paying rent, since there's a 5 day grace period for paying rent.

If your a college student, you can get $30 off of your rent...of course, you have to show proof of attending 12 credit classes. If you pay your rent late twice, then you will pay the full amount on rent. (I know because it happened to me, now I have to wait 6 months for my discount.)

Maintenence live up to their 24 hour response, but do watch them because sometimes they will leave a mess in your house after fixing the problem. So far they helped me with un-clogging my tub and replacing a refridgerator the same day.
The neighborhood is kept up to par with the maintenence staff cleaning the hallways, foyers, and outside ground from trash every weekday morning.
Washer/dryer machines are located in one building across the street from me, but they are spaced out among the community, so every building does not have a laundry area.

When I look out my bedroom window in the morning, I see bus stops for the elementary, middle, and high school kids. So I would say it's a kid friendly neighborhood. Now that summer time is rolling in, you have to expect the young crowd to make noise. So far, I'm happy to be here as it is my first apartment.
