I have lived many places...overland gardens isn't the best, but it's not the worst. The truth is I got an eviction notice (though I have never been late on my rent) my first month in the apartment addressed to the tenant that lived there before and I was terrified that I would come home from work and my stuff would be sitting out on the street. That was humiliating because it was posted on my door in bright color paper for the world to see, but the apology they gave me for the rental office error that caused the whole thing was NOT posted on my door for all to see. I have been there for about 6 months and my washer has not been fixed yet(although I called the first week that I moved in about it, and have been calling ever since for the last 6 months)I guess it's just not that important to them. And my locks were changed by the complex(after I pointed out that I could not get out of the apartment in a fire) but I was harrassed for the copy of the key and threatend to be charged $85 if I didn't give it to them (as if I had gone to the hardware store and bought and changed the locks on my own instead of their own staff doing it) That was a little confusing, because THEY changed the locks NOT ME- and they don't have a key' At any rate, my building is quiet, there is no pest control issue in it. No rates, mice, roaches or other creatures. (people do leave their stinky trash bags in the halls though.)ugh! And children do key and dent your car if it's in the parking lot, but not enough damage to file an insurance claim, just enough to piss you off if you drive something nice. Since it has gotten hot, I have heard people fighting in the parking lot (where the police are when this happens- the world may never know) But they resolve it without shooting one another. (Which, sadly, is commendable these days)The rental price is decent. The fact that I have 2 full bathrooms for that price is very decent. So if you came from a neighborhood that was worse, this is a step up. Or if your going through some life changes and need a place to rent for like a year while you get back on your feet-this is probably the best place to go because of the low price, the decent apartment and all the bells a whistles (Washer/Dryer, dishwasher, garbage disposal ect). Other than that, look around first.

Excellent synopsis of the property. I have been here since the inception. I have long overstayed and my time is up, but like you said, if it was that bad, I would have left long ago. My children do not play witht he neighborhood kids, they don't go to the neighborhood school, and we are rarely ever home, so while this place has many flaws, they do not directly affect me. However I will point out, getting maintenace to fix anything is like pulling teeth. The office has transitioned so many times since I have been there, I know NO ONE by name except for Markita and I am even unsure if she's still there. It's not the projects, but it isn't Northhampton either. You make due with what you have and where you live until it's time for you to move on!
