Hampshire Village encompasses both pros and cons. Let's begin with the pros.
Pros:
Hampshire Village is conviently located only ten minutes away from the beltway, UMD, PG Plaza, and other popular attractions. It is also a generally quiet neighborhood and pretty safe. The neighbors here keep to themselves, however if they decide to speak, they're usually friendly. Tenants have a grace period of five days to pay their rent (the 1st through the 5th). All utilities are included except an additional $15 for air conditioning (per air conditioning unit). There's a laundry facility on-site. Parking stickers are enforced unless you would like for your car to be towed (that means you're pretty much gauranteed a space). The staff is friendly and is usually there to receive calls. The 24-hour maintenance staff also does a pretty good job with responding to maintenance issues. There's a free extermination service offered for pest problems as well.
Cons:
Although Hampshire Village is located in what would appear as a convenient spot, it's SOOOOOO inconvenient. This is due to the constant traffic of cars and people who don't seem to take advantage of cross-walks. Even though the "neighborhood" is quiet the "neighbors" aren't. For seven out of the nine months that I have been here, the tenants above me made so much noise, it sounded like the ceiling was going to literally cave in. It took multiple phone calls to the rental office and a written letter observing the dates when the disturbances occured. You can also find drunk tenants peeing on the sidewalks or near your vehicle. If you pay your rent a day late, instead of a formal notice or phone call being sent to your home, two gigantic signs displaying the phrase "Rent is Late" will be posted on your door for everyone to see. Having all of your utilities included can also be a negative thing. For example, in the winter, you can barely feel the heat, the hot water needed for showers and/or washing dishes is limited to luke warm, and whenever you decide to electricly power more than two things at once, the electricity will go out. Yes, there's a laundry facility on-site; however, it's always being used (by other people who don't live in Hampshire Village) and there are only two washing machines and dryers per every other building. Because Hampshire Village offers a free extermination service, this doesn't necessarily mean that they will do a top-notch job. When I moved in (the first day), there were roaches every where. Jesus (one of the rental office employees) assured me that this issue would be taken care of by the exterminators, unfortunately, this problem persisted for the next EIGHT MONTHS! In order to eliminate the roaches for good, I had to spend MY money and purchase Boric Acid and roach traps. Currently, I am having a major bed-bug problem and I've been told by other residents that it's something affecting them as well. Unfortunately, Hampshire Village doesn't offer a free fumigating service (how convenient).
All in all, the apartment is small and infested with bugs of almost all sorts. You're likely to endure at least three maintenance problems per month. Papusa trucks take up unnecessary amounts of space near the parking lot causing a driver to loose sight of oncoming traffic which could potentially lead to a car accident. Corona bottles are left in the street as well as other trash; therefore, the broken-window theory is definitely prevalent in this neighborhood. Basically, DON'T MOVE TO HAMPSHIRE VILLAGE.
