I've lived in Carleton East Apartments for the past 4 years, and overall I would say that it was average, with much room for improvement. I've read some of the other reviews, and I have to say that each thing that was mentioned was accurate, yet some might have made it seem worse than it really is. The worst issue is a tie between parking and the water issue. Having no assigned parking spaces really becomes a nuisance when there are so many more apartments then spaces, and most people keep visitors. My visitors' cars got towed at LEAST 4 times in the past year... and two of the 4 times they were completely wrong - we had written the note exactly as it was stated, and the rental office didnt feel the need to do anything but give us MUCH attitude. When I confronted them that note had been written as they requested, they argued that it was incorrect - and 2 weeks later there was a memo on visitor's parking notes; that was totally different from what they had intially stated. The water issue - its true, it got to the point where I would've needed a note telling me when our water would be turned ON, because everyday you come home from work you can expect a notice on the front door notifying that the water would be turned off.
The garbage situation is true - trash is usually everywhere around the receptacle, and at times the receptacle would be pushed out onto the parking lot... which did bring creatures and critters... namely, rats. I informed Carleton East about the rats, and within 2 days, the maintenance staff had built a wall around the steps trying to keep them underground (i guess).
I've had to deal with the rental office on several occasions, and I have been confronted with nothing but attitude. The apartments are decent looking and spacious, but the rest needs some serious fine tuning.
I would look around and listen to the suggestions and reviews... if they are things you can handle, go for it. If not .. keep looking....
