Not Worth the Money

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
First off let me say that I pay my rent ON TIME and I don't children who may cause problems and I mind my own business so I'm not saying any of this out of spite or to try to get back at someone because I'm not doing my part...WARNING: this is LOOOONG. Now that I've got that out of the way:
I saw this apartment before I moved and there were dead roaches in the corners on the floor but I thought that I would be able to get rid of them quickly because I keep a clean house and had a few tricks up my sleeve for roaches. It took a month for them to go away and then I was fine for a while. But once I got new neighbors the problem shot through the roof! I mean this infestation was CRAZY!!! I was scared to go in my kitchen and then the jokers started coming into the living room and bathroom. I called for an exterminator and the first time I didn't see results but they came again last week and I must admit that it's looking alot better so I will give them credit for that.
The parking situation is another issue. Like others have said: if you don't get a pass during business hours (which are extremely limited (M-F 9-5)) then your guests will be towed. Even as a tenant you have a risk of being towed if you're driving another car on the weekends and don't have a pass for it...Even if you're in your own space that you pay for each month you can still be towed. I find that this complex does not accomadate tenants at all. They send out these "newletters" which basically outline all the things that you can't do and the consequences if you do. The tone of these letters is outright rude and threatening. It's not a welcoming place to stay at all.
Once I called the management company to complain about an issue and David Stanciu (the owner) was so rude to me that I was almost in tears. So now I see where the staff takes their examples of customer service.
Last year right after I renewed my lease management decided to raise my rent $50 because of some clause that they had in the lease stating that they could do this as they felt necessary. Granted that they did have a right to do so, they should have told me that it was going to be raised further before I signed a new lease and I should have had the option to move if I couldn't afford the increase.
I find that the maintanance staff is pretty decent but once I came home on a Sunday evening and found something out of place. Apparently maintanance entered my apartment unannouced to fix only God knows what. I did get a chance to speak with the gentleman who entered and he was apologetic about entering unannouced but I felt the need to write a letter to management expressing my concern because I am a single woman living alone and this breaches my sense of security. My letter was not rude or nasty at all, just informative, however the letter I got in return was BOTH. They acted as though I have absolutely no right to privacy since I am renting and not an owner. Now I do understand that I don't have the same rights as someone who lives in a condo but I still expect to be informed if maintanence is going to be in my home, afterall that's where I live and keep my personal things and who wants some strange man in her home'' I don't. And then for managment to be as rude as they were... Goodness...It just seems as if they don't want your business there or like they're better than the tenants they lease to. And that is why I will be moving as soon as the lease is over next month.
There are worse places you can live but for the amount you'll pay for rent here I don't think it's worth it. The apartment is nicely sized but everything in it is old and crusty and I think my dishwasher must be from the 70's. I'm sure the cabinets have not been replaced since the apartment was built in the 60's.
They don't turn the a/c on until late May and it's already blazing by then. Then for some reason last year they turned it on and then cut it back off without warning the following week and when I called to see what was up they said that someone complained that their children were cold...This was the dumbest thing I've ever heard because that person could have just turned their air off. Why should I suffer because someone else can't use their brain and put a freaking sweater on their kid' It was ridiculous.
I don't recomend this place to anyone. I think that if Forest Lake gets a new management company and does some renovations they will be ok. I'm really frustrated with this place because I thought I was going to be able to stay here until I was ready to buy a home. Unfortunately that's not the case. Maybe others have had a better experience than I've had. But this place is extremely sub par.
Oh, I almost forgot: there was something wrong with my ceiling and everytime it rained hard it would POUR through my ceiling (I'm on the 3rd floor). This first happened in the middle of the night and it took maintanence about 30 mins to come and when they came dude was in his pajamas. How unprofessional. Then to catch the water they tried to bring garbage cans from the trash rooms. I thought that was gross considering that they had just sent a letter stating that there was a serious rodent and roach promblem in the trash rooms. After having been rained on at least 4 different times, they finally had someone fix the roof...Just thought I'd add that as a reason NOT to live at Forest Lake.
