Do not rent here...ever!!!!

If we were renting for more than three months, we would have moved already. Our townhouse sold, our new house is in the process of being built now and we needed a place to stay for a few months until it is finished. We should have moved to a flophouse hotel for $40 a night and we probably would have been better off.
The apartment was supposedly cleaned by a cleaning staff prior to us moving in, but it surely didn't look like it. Everything just looked dingy and nasty. Rust around the toilet, mirrors in the bathroom peeling, kitchen cabinets sagging in the middle, doors don't close properly, low budget refrigerator, stove and washer and dryer (I will get to this next).
But we figured, it is only for a few months. I have cooked two or three times only because it just feels nasty in the kitchen. The refrigerator door does not close properly and it leaks. The refrigerator light can be seen through the freezer bottom and it does not keep things cold. The fan above the stove works when it wants to, if it wants to...yet the fire alarms are hyper sensitive and even steam will set it off.
Two weeks ago, the washer broke in the middle of the cycle and leaked water all over the kitchen. The maintenance person came the next day and did nothing but put a pen to the button that initiates the wash cycle and declared it "broken" and he would put in an order for a new one. The next day the sewage system backed up and since wwe are on the ground level...the sewage backed up into the kitchen sink and in the washer dryer closet (which is in the kitchen) and flooded the kitchen with waste. Also flooded the hall area and second bedroom closet which backs to the kichen. The maintenance person came out and indicated that they were not able to do anything and would have to call a plumber. Two maintenance problems, two maintenance people, neither competent to fix maintenance issues!@!@!! The maintenance person (I use the term loosely) indicated that since he was the only person working that he would have to send someone on Monday to clean the floors and carpets. WTF!@!@ Are we supposed to sleep in this s$#@ smelling place for two days! According to them, absolutely. We wound up leaving that night to stay with friends. The next day we came back to get our laundry (which we had to take to the laundromat since the washer was broken). I am tired of typing so I will just say that two weeks later, we are still dealing with stench and they have still not replaced the washer/dryer.
I am just hanging onto the hope that our house will be done soon and we will be out of this place soon. My husband insists that location and short term lease terms is what its about, so we just have to wait it out. But if I knew what I know now, I wouldn't have co-signed to live like this even it is for a short period of time.
After the plumber came and snaked the drain. The maintenance guy
