Laurel, by the standards of local residents and those who've stayed here longer, is one of the cities at the bottom of the barrel. "One that most people could never see themselves living in." I couldn't understand it until a recent friend of mine had his motorcycle stolen from the property. A month or 2 earlier, another person had their tailgate broken into at the back of his truck. Definitely a high crime rate area. Whats worse is that there were no signs of increased security or action taken by local police or apartment management after repeated incidents. I'm not sure if both thinks it's the others responsibility but either way something should have been done.

The units are also showing signs of aging. We had issues with wasps coming through the window frame every so often. From my experience, ground level units typically have more issues with insects than higher floors. Bathroom and kitchen tile are building up scratches and grim that were hard to remove and still are. On top of it, there was a shoddy job of covering up what looks like a hole in the bathroom wall with a metal plate (had mold growing out of it when we moved in...not too bad but noticeable).

The landscaping on the other hand looks decent...not perfect but above average. It's also centrally located between downtown Laurel, Columbia, and Arundal Mills (big commercial/shopping areas). That's about the only good thing I can think of going for them. However, their pond out front now looks like a dried up swamp with weeds growing abundantly on its water bed. I chuckle to myself everytime I drive by that.

While this is not the worst I've been in, I too now can't see myself living in Laurel. This experience has taught me to go search for better units in other local areas such as Columbia, Glen Burnie, Ellicot City, or Odenton.

I agree with the insects. I lived on a bottom floor unit and the insects were horrible!!! I had spiders and crickets coming into the apartment all the time. One week, I killed four crickets within two days which totally disgusted me. The crickets were in my kitchen area, the bathroom and living room areas...just horrible. If you lease from them at least get a second floor apartment so you will not see or experience insects constantly in your living quarters. They could definitely upgrade the apartments. The washer and dryer I had were from the early 80's. The darn washer did not work right and at times I had to call the rental office to get it fixed when they could have just replaced it. Is country meadows the worst place you could live...no but is it the best...definitely not.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but Columbia is NO better Crime wise.I have lived in several places in columbia the last ten years and my car has been broken into three times. It would seem it is just MARYLAND that has become unliveable.
