Cross Creek is a complex built in the 60's. It tries to approximate the amenities offered at newer properties, but fails. The units are spacious (1 BR - 788 Square Feet) but the rent is high for Laurel. There are HIDDEN CHARGES that add to your bottom line. There is a NO PET POLICY.
First, you must give 60 days notice to vacate. You may end up paying double rent on TWO units for the same month. They justify it as a fair housing practice.
For a 788-sqaure-foot apartment, you'll pay for electricity, and gas for heating, hot water and cooking. You will also pay for water consumption - $20 per month regardless of usage.
A Texas company is the gas provider. My first full bill from MINOL was $58.47 for 29 days ($2.02 per DAY). It didn't matter that I had not used the heat since moving in, and rarely cooked or that the weather had been mild (50's and 60's) for the period covered. (Search on "MINOL" for complaints about their business practices.)
What you aren't told at lease signing is that the gas bill is divided equally among tenants occupying units of the same size. If you live alone and conserve, you will pay for the greater use of gas by multiple occupants of the same unit size. And of course, the tenant must also pay for electric and water.
There is a washer in the unit, but requires a clumsy set of steps to get it to work. Also, you have to slide the dryer out of its storage space before use. Not easy. Whoops! There goes the gas bill. It is probably best to use the units in the laundry room, which may also add to the cost of gas.
Before you sign a lease, CAREFULLY read EVERY document, and discuss them FULLY with the property manager. Be persistent and dogged until you have a satisfactory explanation. Beware of properties using MINOL USA for gas.
Finally, the safety of the neighborhood is questionable. There was a shooting in the complex, and there are constant police and ambulance sirens. There is a lot of foot traffic from non-tenants.
Email me for additional details. I hope there is a HOME PURCHASE in your future!

You are correct. The gas is what kind of irked me also. I did not know that we would have to be paying for everyone's gas. Nobody tells us this, but we are told to read a couple of pages they give us and supposedly it is said in there. As for the maintenance, I have been living in my apartment for almost a year and still, there are things that need to be fixed. I've complained a few times already, but still nothing has been done to fix my problems. Let me just say, I will not be signing to renew my lease.
