Getting better but not there yet!

I am so glad I moved from Laurel Square. I was there from 97 to 2005. It wasn??t so bad when I first moved in but it just kept getting worse year by year. I can't say that I ever had a real problem with maintenace though. The office staff had a very high turnover rate. I wonder why' It seems that every year we renewed our lease we were dealing with different people. In 2000, we had drug dealers working out of not one but two apartments in my building. It took over 8 months to get them out.
Ironically, the next tenant in one of those units was a state trooper. I told her about the previous tenants and she said ??Yeah it was a crack house!?? She knew! The neighborhood in my section did start to improve after that, but it was still the same poor management.
Every time we had to renew our lease we kept getting notes stuck to our door (mind you, someone was always home when they were posted ?? they never even bothered to knock) saying we underpaid our rent. The final straw came last March when we were summoned to court, with no warnings, not even a note on the door, because we owed five months of pet fees. We had the proof that we told them that our dog had died! They dropped the case, but I still missed two and a half days of work because of their incompetence!
In three years we had seven incidents regarding our rent. We paid our rent on time and in full every month for the eight years we lived there. Fortunately, the new property manager Kennard Jones settled with us before we took them to small claims court for their error. We settled for less only because he told us he knew who was causing the problems and she was about to be fired.
I can??t say anything negative about Mr. Jones. I saw a definite improvement after he came on-board. I can verify that he is big on area beautification. However, there is still a bad element living there and it seems that there is nothing that can be done about it. So much for equal housing!
If you are looking for a place to rent ?? I??d stay away from Laurel Square because I don??t think anyone can save that property!
