To Stay or Not To Stay

I have some mixed emotions regarding Marymont. I moved here in March 2007. I found the management staff very friendly and helpful. I personally have not had any problems as described by previous renters. I've never felt unsafe, I actually left my keys in my door one evening by mistake and they were there the next morning when I woke up with no problems. I don't quite understand the maintenance issue; any time I have needed maintenance (which hasn't been much) they responded very quickly. With regards to the rudeness, the maintenance men don't even talk much, could it be that who ever the person(s) was that complained about them was rude to them' My lease will be up soon and I currently am debating "To Stay of Not to Stay" but let it be known that it is not due to management or maintenance issues. My issues are parking and the rising cost of rent with not upgrades. During the 4th of July fireworks and other Laurel community events that take place in the park there is very limited parking for the residents of Marymont, I should not have to park on the other side of the complex or on the street because visitors have taken all of the spaces. There needs to be visitor parking and reserved parking for residents with stipulations for violators. With regards to the appliances and cabinets in the units, they are in need of a major make over.

I appreciate this posting. It's quite rational. I am a current resident at Marymont and would agree with the majority of your concerns. However, I will say that management changed this year and so the problems explained here might be towards the old management team which might explain your difference of opinion from other postings. The new management is a little more strict on things and professional about matters pertaining to their residents' needs as well as the overall needs of Marymont as a business, in my opinion. But I will say that the area of Laurel in GENERAL has truly taken a turn for the worse and that is what concerns me the most about living at Marymont. Taking the trash out a few weeks ago, I actually witnessed a stolen car driven over the median by the office and left abandoned by three young men, car still running and doors wide open. Turns out they stole the car in DC, drove it to Main Street in Laurel and shot at someone living around that area, then abandoned the car in Marymont. Then there was the young girl who was dropped off in the rain on Van Dusen after being sexual assaulted. And we all know about the jail inmate who escaped from Laurel Hospital and went missing around this area as well. It's not to say Marymont is the problem, it's more like this area in general is unsafe these days and that is a tragedy.
