Relatively cheap for this area, but "you get what you pay for"

Having moved to this area from the midwest, this was one of the few apartment complexes that seemed within our price range for a 2-bedroom apt. It is a huge complex - maybe 400 units' Perhaps this alone should have given us a clue that we should not expect attentive service from management. Our apartment is fairly spacious and has a large size balcony. The thing I like about the apartment is the windows in the living room, that go across most of the living area, bringing in much light. However, this has its downside, since all windows in the apartment are single-pane, uninsulated, and when it is cold outside, it is also cold INSIDE. The drafts through the windows are very bad. But management will not do anything about this, and since they do not pay for any utilities whatsoever, your inflated heat bill is your own problem.
We had numerous maintenance problems upon first moving in, and were appalled at the shoddy job that was done painting and cleaning the place before we moved in. After diligent complaining, and a number of weeks, most problems were attended to, but the quality of the maintenance work is poor. Many problems are already back after only 4 months. There is also an ever-present population of roaches in the kitchen, no matter how spotless we keep the place. There is a charge of two-month's rent for breaking a lease, which, given this rent, is a substantial sum - otherwise we might have tried to move already. The management here seems to do the minimum they can to get by, and still be within the law - they definitely do not care much about tenant satisfaction, just about collecting the rent. I would tell others not to move here. And furthermore, I would advise people not to move into any other apartment complexes owned by the Town and Country corporation (there are quite a few) - Town and Country is in the rental business only for the money - they care almost nothing about whether tenants are satisfied or happy with their living areas.
