I lived in Willow Lake during my first year at UMD, moving there from Los Angeles, I had no idea that I was moving to the ghetto. Many times during my year lease I was literally scared to go to sleep at night. I was scared to walk outside my apartment, there were always young men congregating in front of the building around my car and leering at me. The laundry room was one of the scariest places to have to go to, it's dark and has places where people can hide (ie. the homeless and less savory). I had roaches, waterbugs, and lady bugs. They sprayed at least once a month upon my persistant request, but the insects never went away. My bedroom was infested with ladybugs during the spring. In the winter it was so COLD in my bedroom which had 2 exterior facing walls, that I moved my bed into the living room, where I had sealed the windows and sliding door with plastic. I still needed a space heater and several blankets. My cats who are thick coated had to sleep under the blankets with me that's how cold they were. During my stay there, someone ran there car through a first level apartment, and I witnessed constant domestic violence incidents. I was always afraid my car wouldn't be there in the morning and that someone would break in while I was at school or worse while I was trying to sleep.

As far as the leasing staff/ maintnence, I got prompt service, but to be honest with you I believe it was because they were white and I was one of the very few white people living in the buildings. I was witness to their ignorance many times in my year there.

If you are a single woman, unless you are desperate, stay away from Willow Lake.

One last thing, in regards to the upkeep of their units, my bathroom cieling caved in while I was there due to many years of painting over paint over paint over paint.

And has anyone ever figured out why they turn off the water all the time with short if any notice'
