I moved out from Willow Lakes Apartment in June 08 and was told that my deposit would be returned to me in 30-45 days. As of the 17th of September 2008, I have yet to speak with anyone at the Bethany Group in reference to my unreceived deposit. To make matters worse, They deducted 250 dollars from my deposit because they stated that the carpet needed to be cleaned. If the damage was that bad then they should have just replaced it but they stated that it didn't need to be replaced. Also, they charged be a late fee for my last payment, which of course I paid in time along with all my other rent from the previous months. I also had to file a complaint with Willow Lakes Maintenance. While I was in my place of rest, they opened up my door for an uninvited guest while I had company. My name was the only name on my lease. The place was somewhat quiet but my overall experience has been negative. It was my first place on my own and I feel that I was taken advantage of because of that. I'm still awaiting a resolution for my deposit and don't feel that I should be begging for a deposit that is due to me. They made sure I paid my 869 dollar deposit up front. I will take matters to court if I continue to receive no response from their headquarters.

You should read up on landlord/tenant laws in MD. I believe that you could sue for up to 3x your deposit because it hasn't been returned. I think that they have 45 days, but you would need to check.

They can not deduct any monies from your deposit for carpet cleaning. That is considered normal wear and tear! Check out the land lord tenant laws, technically they can not keep any of you deposit since the exceeded the 45 day time period. Make a big fuss and threaten to sue, I used to live there and thats how I got my money back.
