Enjoy some R&R: Rats and Roaches, that is!

Poor fit and finish. The apt looked like they had tried to make it liveable and had only finished a day before we moved in. They told my mother that the unit already had hardwood floors, which was something that sold the unit to her. Upon moving in it was clear that they had probably ripped up the carpet a few days prior to fulfill the hardwood flooring promise. They didn't even seal the floor! The baseboard trim isn't even attached in some places and there are gaps everywhere. The heat and AC both work poorly and noisily. The neighbors aren't really any louder than typical young adults, but the apartments are so poorly insulated against noise that you can hear everything like it's in the apartment with you. And let's not even talk about pest problems. If you venture out of your bedroom at night you will probably see some roaches scurrying out of your way, and you might surprise the family of rats that come out while you're asleep. I also hear occasional gunfire coming from the courtyard at night. To sum up, Village Square North isn't the worst you can get in the DC metro area, but that's really more an indictment of the area than an endorsement of the apartment. Avoid this place if you can, but if you have no choice, make sure to look for another place so you can leave when your year is up. I know we will.
