It's very frustrating to have to go to the first floor and let my guests in. At least when the security was at the gate residents could call him in the evening to let their guest in. I feel I am paying for an amenity that I'm not getting.

I agree. I moved in in March and they said that the intercom would be up within a couple months, well...it is June and still no intercom. I am sick and tired of having to go downstairs or having to throw my keys down to my guest when they want to enter. I came to this location for the security but it is hard to feel safe when the intercom system is not working or the rear gate. I thought I was paying for luxury.

Same with me, security was the main reason I moved here last year. The guard was posted at the main gate and that made me feel safe because I knew no unauthorized persons could drive through the gate behind me, which had happened to me before. I only found out they were soon going to get rid of the guard when it did happen that someone followed me through the gate and up to the 4th floor. It was night so I hesitated and did not get out of my car, waiting to see if the other car was indeed following me or waiting for a resident to let them in at the door. They just sat there so I called the desk and they connected me to security but it was the cell # of the recently let go officer. He was the one who informed me there would no longer be security at the gate. So the question is, are we paying for something that is not being provided?

I agree wholeheartedly - this is a very frustrating place to call home. The thing that I find extremely annoying is getting into the garage. In order to activate the garage door opener, you have to actually let your car window down and extend you arm to make contact with the activator. What a joke! Sometimes the weather is wet or cold or someone could be chasing you. But when you get to the gararge, you have to STOP, let your car window down, extend your arm to make contact with the activator, then the gate SLOWLY opens - by that time you could be a victim. When I moved in here last year, they had real live security guards positioned at the gates - they have since been let go - so security has taken a real hit. The office never even bothered to send out a notice telling the tenants that the security guards had been dismissed - one day they were just gone and no one ever said a word. I think it was just a way to lure people into the apartment. A very frustrating place to call home!

I have been living at the Westchester at Cherrylane for a little over a year and I have to agree that not having an intercom system is a problem. Also, I believe the pricing policy for there apartments is questionable. For example a colleague at work had a family member move in two months before I arrived, well he and his roomate had a two bedroom/two bath apartment for $1420 then when I moved in my one bedroom/one bathroom appartment is $1550. When I talked to the leasing represenative she stated that our prices are variable with the market and the time of the year, which dosen't make senses and it isn't fair. Also, if you choose the flexible lease terms you are charged significantly more in monthly rent because as the leasing agent stated "since we are providing a convience for you, our company should make a profit." I personally think the community is too over priced for the location being in Laurel which just a normal working class community with really no good shopping, entertainment or restaurants and its very overcrowded. Also, after moving here my car isnsurance increased $150 every six months, the insurance agent stated that the reason for the increase was that Laurel has a reputation for increased auto theft and accidents when compared to other communities.
