If you're looking for some honesty...

When I was looking for an apartment, I used the Apartment Ratings website, because I was confused after looking for awhile, and I found the site very, very useful. I had to backtrack and take many apartments off my list that I was interested in viewing. I was grateful for the comments. However, now it is my turn to return the favor; I said I would do that after I had lived in my apartment for a year; by then I would be able to make a clear honest review of my living experience - which I am aware, especially after reading some of the other reviews, will not be the same as how others view these same apts. My reasoning is to help someone out who is out there looking, like I was. Parking OK so far, always have a space; Maintenance - great so far, hall-ways always clean; something I feared people's children would mess up; Construction - if this means the way the apartments were built - well, there are not a lot of closet space; for people with a lot of junk, however, there is storage space for a fee. The balconies are small (I've seen bigger); if you have a lot of lawn furniture, don't bring it. The parking garage has hidden entrances/exits; you have to be careful when making turns because idiots live on site; they drive too fast like A-holes and have no consideration for others; there is no reason to drive fast in a parking garage; I would hate to have to explain to my insurance agency about an accident in a parking garage! (construction not well thought out here) The bedroom(s) is small; there will be no dancing in the bedroom, just sleep. Noise is minimal, quiet for almost a year; someone has just moved over my head and they walk hard, but I am expecting that to calm down, because really, where are you going in an apartment; plus its carpeted. The grounds are clean. Safety - Police presence often; Office staff - I hate new faces, after getting to know someone, but thats the nature of the business, high turnover, so far everyone has been nice. It all depends on how you want to live. When I read about these apartments (new, no ratings yet), they reeked of adult living (I was hoping), and I jumped on it; silly me to think that a 425 unit would have no kids - if you can tolerate kids, you can move here - so far they have been well behaved, much to my surprise. If you don't have a lot of junk, you can move here, or if you can afford the extra storage space - you're good to go. For the most part (can't stop people from walking)these apartments are very quiet. This is when you hear noise: when you are in the hall-way (on your way out) unless you're standing around listening to people's conversations, its quiet within your own apartment. A parking garage is great, less wear-in-tear on your car, especially in the winter, but be cautious and weary of idiots-while-driving. The trash situation; back to people being idiots; I went to take out the trash, and when I opened the door all the trash was looking at me - I can't imagine what the thinking was. All the trash was at the door; all the back wall was empty - yes, the trash shute was full; so place your trash up against the wall in the back! I just threw my trash in the back and left, definitely could not get in. One more thing, there was a chair; when you read your lease you will notice that it says not to throw away hugh items and to breakdown all boxes - some people are idiots, hard of hearing, and illiterate, so go figure - a chair; this is a person with no concern for their community or their neighbors. "Chair can't go down the chute - somebody else can deal with it" I know thats what they were thinking. If you want to live amongst idiots - you can move here - just don't make friends, because you don't know who the idiots are. If you are quiet yourself, don't have a lot of junk, don't need a lot of space, work a nine-to-five, mind your own business, drive safely and can ignore the idiots; this is a great place to live. It is not the ghetto - ghetto is a word used by people who have low self-esteem and have ghetto mentality within them. Anybody who can afford to pay the rate of these apartments, are middle class upstanding individuals - some simply are able to fall through the cracks, and I hope they will be moving out soon. As far as the office staff go - I know they can't discriminate, but I wish they had more discretionary taste in who they let move in. If you are not in a big hurry to move, save your money, buy a townhouse (single family home); for the rent that you will be paying at these apts. plus electric/water, it may be the better route. However, if you can't wait, this is a nice place to park for a while. An intercom is not needed, and I'm very glad that people have to go and greet their guest, I would prefer it if they didn't come at all; 1st of all they take up the residence parking spaces; again these are people that don't care about the community, or their neighbors. I am glad the non-english speaking guards are gone too, they were letting anybody in, and that didn't register security to me. all the people that are unhappy I hope they move out; when I'm unhappy that is exactly what I plan to do. I hope this gives someone a clear picture of living at these apartments. When you do your walk-through, look around and see if your things will fit, go out on the balcony; no one is holding a gun to your head - so far there are no roaches, and no rats, the place is clean and its nice to look at; if you don't clean, you're going to have a dirty house. Everything is light-white, and dust accumalates fast; your apartment, anywhere you live is as nice as you want it to be - its the people, where you are going to find problems and fault. I don't agree with the different apt. rents, and when I moved in my car insurance went down. I don't have a problem sticking my arm out the window and letting up the garage gate; I don't like kids in the clubhouse, but there is no place for them to go; people who move in w/kids are very selfish people. People want their guest to come up anytime they want, I don't trust your guests, I don't know them; you should be with them, and monitor what they do. This place is great for me because I live a low-key life, might not be that way for you. I think I got lucky, I don't hear loud noises and I have not ran into rude inconsiderate neighbors, but I know their there. Good luck in your search, and read between the lines if you're looking at Apt. Ratings; not the stupid "we don't have an intercom" complaints.
