I lived here a couple years ago- so I suppose things may have changed, although I hear that they haven't from people who still live there.
Definition of a crash pad: an airline personnel (usually pilot/flight attendant) rents an apartment, and then takes in numerous amounts of other pilots/flight attendants and charges them to 'crash' there between trips.
This can be good and it can be bad. The good is for those people who need to be near the airport. The bad is that since there are people there who aren't paying as much for rent and aren't on the lease they have no problem raising hell, being loud & drunken, and then doing donuts in the front lawn of the complex in a pickup truck.

As far as the reality of the light rail being close- that's true it is close. BUT if you're female I recommend not doing it once the sun starts to set. You have to go through a wooded area and through this area of houses which takes you down a very steep hill. In the winter this becomes an absolute joke because it's not a road that is treated or well plowed and so the climb back up is near impossible.
The apts themselves seemed fine. Everything worked, couldn't really hear the neighbors (maybe that's because my other crash pad mates drowned out the noise'!)
While I was there the parking lot was forever dimly lit and wasn't a comfortable place to be in for very long at night. Parking was hit or miss depending on when you got there- if it was late, you'll be taking a little stroll.
