WHEW, Good and bad here!

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
This place is old so keep in mind that only some of the units were renovated. The rest of them really show their age. I think the carpets should be changed automatically after someone with a pet moves out. Don't just leave the stained and pet haired carpet in there for the new tenant to deal with. What if someone has pet allergies'!!! Or better yet, when you clean your house, you find pet hairs in the doors of the refrigerator or in the grooves of the stove. A cleaning crew should be hired to thoroughly clean the place, especially after a pet has lived there. By the way, we specifically said no pets when we agreed to lease.
The walls are very thin and you CAN HEAR everything. The floors creak loudly, so when the neighbors are up and down their stairs, it sounds like someone is in your apartment. This can be frightening at night when you are in bed. The different smells from their home comes into yours. When water backs up from the neighbors' sink, it comes into your place. Their critters come into your place especially if they are not as clean as you. If you have more than one car, good luck finding a spot close to your house. Some neighbors and their friends are very inconsiderate and you can't buy an additional spot.
We had to go through a tough credit and background check to move in. After we moved in and looked around at what we were living next to, it just made me wonder if the others went through the same process or if they got in on a favor. I didn't think this was a section 8 community so it makes me wonder about the leasing office.
Management is a joke. They need to crack down on the tenants a little better than what they do. Management never follows up on anything and THEY need to do a periodic walk through of the property. There would be chairs sitting in the middle of the walkways, trash being collected in people's yards, and some areas looking ghetto. I still saw the same stuff going on after management put out a flyer telling tenants not to do something. In my opinion, there should be more evictions because there are so many lease violations here that it's pathetic.
Maintenance is awesome! They fix problems but sometimes have to call in private contractors which is okay, as long as it gets fixed. The grounds look nice and are well maintained. We didn't dare use the pool during the summer because many of the people there, looked like they were taking a bath in it so we left and never returned.
Utilities are not so bad. You pay your own gas, electric, and water. Add on another $400 for your utilities including cable tv. The surrounding area is not bad. You will be close to many places to eat, several grocery stores, and a few malls are within 15 minutes from here. There are several schools in the area if you have children. Police headquarters is about 5 minutes away. Fire and ambulance arrive quickly if you need them and the trash truck comes daily.
OVERALL, this is a nice place and would be better if you could choose your neighbors. Maybe you should try!
