Waterbugs Indeed...an Honest Opinion

I lived in Kaywood for 2 years begining in 2004. It was ok for a first apt. The apartments are spacious and very affordable. The price was the main reason I moved there. The maintenance team is excellent and they fixed things right away.
For the most part the buildings are old and they are made of brick. So YES there are tons of bugs! But not roaches. It is surrounded by grass, flowers, and trees so there are bugs and stuff especially in the summer. The whole two years I lived there I saw two roaches, and they came in and exterminated right away. There are NO mice or rats and the area is clean. The bugs are like waterbugs, and creepy crawly little things that come from the brick exterior and the rural setting.
I rode the metro the whole time I lived there. The G8 stops right in front of the community, so if your a metro commuter try to live in the front of the community by the leasing office to limit your walking to the bus stop. Also have a number to a cab company to take you to the metro when the bus is running slow or you don't feel like waiting.
Like I said I lived there like four years ago, and I was only 21 then. I am a female and I was working late then getting home at like 3 in the morning, and I never once felt unsafe. The neighborhood was ok then. Im not sure how it is now though. I walked to the 7-11 all the time late or early and never had any problems. Back in the early 90's though it was a big crime and drug area.
If you have a car the parking is free. But if you come home after 6pm on the weekdays it will be hard to find parking; be prepared to park blocks away.
Having a car or using a taxi is cool b/c the banks, grocery stores, mall etc. are all like 5 minutes away driving, or walking like 30 mins.
There is no central heat of A/C. The a/c unit is only in one room, and the heat radiator gets way too hot. But atleast the heat you can turn down if needed. You will probably have to buy your own a/c unit for the bedroom/livingroom.
I am actually thinking about moving back to save money b/c the rent is affordable. But the bugs are what freak me out. I had about three waterbugs the entire time I was there, and weekly i had these brown multi-leg creatures. There are waterbugs in the laundry rooms in the basement.
If your a guy who isn't scared of bugs, go for it. You will be glad you did it. But any ladies out there who don't like to kill bugs and get scarred, this may not be the place for you.
