Yo!

Eh. It's better than living on the streets, but if you can afford better, pay it.

We needed a place and we needed it fast, and thus ended up here. It does beat the heck out of the falling-down-ghetto (literally) rowhome we accidently moved into (out of towners, and renting from a friend who we shoudln't have trusted). The heat and air work, it doesn't leak, etc.

However, we moved here in February and from then until now (june) we have gotten to hear gunshots on three separate occasions, car vandalism and theft are fairly commong (vandalism maybe biweekly and car theft monthly or so) and a lot of folks in our building have loud fights at random hours, and complaints to the management aren't useful. Oh, and a dead dog showed up on our patio. Also, they don't clean the vent system, and it's moldy and making us sick.

We were gearing up to move, but I got laid off, so we're screwed for a bit, but we plan to leave ASAP.

(note on price...we pay about $300/month over what you pay if you get a year lease, because we [thank god!] didn't get a year lease)

The paint is cracking. The toliet seat broke under normal use (i.e. we were sitting on it, and we're not unreasonably large or anything) there's a kerosene smell coming from the carpet padding near the door, the paint they used was cheap and no top coat, so if it gets even damp it discolours, the magnetic strip on the fridge is shot, they woudln't fix or replace (we finally just velcroed it shut) the oven runs about 100 degrees low (i.e. turn it to 450 and you'll get 350 or so) and they did as much fixing as they could/would (the guy looked at it and turned the knob around -- either it gets it accurate but doesn't go to broil or else it's wrong), there is no assigned parking, and if you come home late expect to park a block away, all the mailboxes open with the same key (so anyone in your building, at a minimum, can get into your mailbox) and the rubber stopper on the toliet seat was installed wrong, making flushing hte toliet an interesting experience.

Any one of these things is, obviously, relatively minor. On the whole I think it shows that these folks just kinda suck in the maintainance department.

The maintainance guys are nice and will come by and fix things in something like a reasonable time. If it's something they can fix (i.e. stopped drain)
