Not ideal, but acceptable

I lived in Heritage square for two years. It's really a matter of getting what you pay for. While there are definitely some shortcomings, I don't think I would have found anything better in the same price range.

The apartment was spacious, bright and had a great balcony running the entire length of the living & dining room. The kitchen was small but servicable. The bedroom was large and had a great walk-in closet. The bathroom was small but had satisfactory hot water and water pressure.

The paint is pretty thick on everything and the wood floors are bit scuffed up. The walls and floors/ceilings are very thin. Despite trying to tread gently and wearing only socks in the apartment, I often had complaints from my downstairs neighbors about the noise. I understood it though, because my upstairs neighbors sounded like a herd of elephants when they walked around. When things are quiet you can hear your neighbors coughing, and I once heard the unmistakable clicking of an adding machine being used. If you have neighbors that argue, you will definitely hear it.

People often honk their car horns late at night or early in the morning. The neighbors are civil to one anther, but not particularly friendly. Kids run absolutely wild in this neighborhood, with no apparent supervision. I finally gave up reporting it when the kids would spray the fire-extinguisher all over our landing. Management would just hang another one up without putting it behind glass and within a week the kids would empty it again. Not surprisingly, two of the buildings in the complex have burned to the ground since I moved out.

Late at night there are usually a lot of inebriated or stoned men flanking the sidewalks and their comments sometimes made me uncomfortable, but nobody ever threatened me.

Management is minimally acceptable. No major complaints, but customer service with a good attitude isn't a top priority for them. They tend to assume the worst about their tenants and aren't inclined to work with you if you have a problem. In the entire two years I lived there my rent was only late one time and it was due to circumstances beyond my control (really!). I explained the entire situation to them and had documentation to back up my claims, but they still started eviction proceedings against me. Once the rent was paid they dropped the proceedings but it was still stressful.

The few times I needed maintenance I usally got it within a couple of days. Maintenance did have a bad habit of knocking and then almost immediately letting themselves in, so I bought a door jamb to use when I was home.

In the two years I lived there, I saw about five roaches, all very small. I killed them and saw no more.

This is not an ideal neighborhood, and I was glad to move out. But if you're looking for someplace with low rent and all utilities included it's reasonably safe and spacious. Be sure to have good renter's insurance and buy your own fire extinguisher though!

Ma'am i find this all hard to believe. The reason why is because I used to live in Heritage Square Apartments for 3- 4 years. And I have to say my experience there was great. The kitchen might have been small but it also had and extension of a dinig room to it and even offered a great bar in between the two. There was carpenting throughout all of the rooms except the walk way when you first enter the apartment. In the master bedroom there was a nice walk in closet and also a bathroom. Which made two in the apartment. The kids had curfews and at any circumstances were there any found outside past that time given (believe me I know.) The ceiling had to have been pretty good because I lived on the second floor and I never recieved nor have I given any complaints about the noise. So all in all to the people reading this if your looking for an nice warm and loving place to live with good renters insurance this is the best place to look. So now that you have two sides of a story I guess the best thing to do is check it out yourself.
