Not ideal, but not a hell-hole either

I have lived here for 13 months, and am moving out to relocate for a new job. Although I would have preferred living in a safer area, and having a more carefully lept-up apartment, what I have been living in for the past year certainly isn't horrific. The apartment (1 BR Slpit level) is large. There are very few apartment buildings that can offer a 890 sq. ft. 1-br apartment, particularly at the price. The utilities are also paid for, and we have air conditionng in the hot months. The leasing agents do have a rather tight contorol over the AC. It is on only from the middle of may to the middle of august, and they only allow it to get so cold. There is a lot of thick paint, and maintenance didn't seem to take their time laying the vinyl in the bathroom or refinishing the bathtub, but the facilities were pretty decent. Our apartment is carpetted, and we have never had any bad noise problems, we could hear our neighbors' music when it was turned up, but they never played music during extreme hours. I found the Maintenance staff to be excellent. Our fridge broke once, and they called and checked it out the afternoon we reported it, and brought us a brand new refridgerator the very next morning. The electrical wiring isn't so hot, so storms may knock your lights out. 2 buildings have burned down due to faulty electrical wiring, so be careful and put everything onto surge protectors. We saw roaches 2-3 times this past year, which is unnerving, but I have not seen a road in at least 6 months. The worst thing that happened to us, and it is pretty bad, is that a BAT got into our apartment somehow really late at night, and my fiance had to kill it. That was extremely creepy. There are often groups of people outside late at night, drinking or smoking. It is uncomfortabe to walk past them (and angering when they sit on your car hood), but I have never had any safety or noise problems other than uncomfortable feelings. Neighbors pretty much keep to themselves. The first month we lived here, we had a neighbor whose childrem ran wild during the summer days, and that was pretty annoying, so I guess it all depends on whether or not you get decent neighbors. So, although Heritage square may not be the ideal place to live, for PG county it isn't horrible and the apartment sizes are a huge plus
