Yo!

Do Not Think About Moving Here...

I have lived here since January 2004. When I first got here, I thought it was a decent place to live. I realize now how wrong I was. I thought the apartment was nice, b/c the carpet was new, and the walls were freshly painted. Also, the kitchen and bathroom were "all new". By "all new", they mean they will use Bath Fitters or some copycat company to redo your bathroom. So who knows what is lurking under that sheet of plastic they call my shower.

Also, the air conditioning does not work corectly in some buildings--mine included! They basically told us there was nothing they could do about it. I now realize that H. Square is not obligated to give us AC, although I think I deserve it, being that we pay $1200 a month! This is just a note for future residents--don't expect to be cool on those muggy, Southern Maryland summer days. And speaking of AC, there are literally chunks of dirt and dust that fly out of my vents. I can't even remember the last time they came to change the filters.

Let's talk about my main issue--roaches. I read another review in which the tenant said her move-in date was pushed back. They tried to do that to us, too, because they were having a hard time getting rid of all the roaches in our apartment. We moved in after they told us, the roach situation was "under control". The roach situation was so NOT under control! They are EVERYWHERE. In the past 6 months, we have probably been "exterminated" 8-10 times. And guess what, they are still there! I read something online that said roaches are nocturnal, and the few that you may see during the daytime are a sign that there is "over-crowding" in the walls, a sign of "severe infestation". Well, you guessed it, H. Square is severly infested with roaches. And it's no wonder. Take a look at the grounds and you will see why. Don't just come here and go to the beautiful model apartment and fresh rental office. Do yourself a favor and walk to the back of the complex, where they apparently don't care what the grounds look like. Out front, there are flowers planted, no broken bottles on the pavement...I think they even shovel the sidewalks out fron when it snows! In the back, you will see overflowing dumpsters, and broken toys and empty fast food bags littering the grounds. Oh, and a side note, when the garbage men come, and dump the dumpster, there is no place to set it back down, because all the trash that was leaning against the dumpster has now fallen, they just put it in the grass, where your children are expected to play. If there is no grass nearby, no worries, they will just put it in the road/parking lot! How convenient to have to swerve around a huge dumpster! I must say that the apartments in the front ARE much nicer than the ones in the back, where I was thrown. If you must live here, demand an apartment near the rental office. In the front is also where the good for nothing security officer sits....all night. You would think he'd patrol the entire complex, but, no.

Another thing, when we moved here, I enjoyed the staff and maintenance men....I thought. Now I realize they are all just Alfonso's minions. Alfonso is the office manager and I hate to be this harsh, but, really, he is good for nothing. Good luck getting him to return a phone call, let alone correcting any issue you may have. I have been told by two people, (one of which actually works in the rental office), that Alfonso purposely screws people over when he gives them a reference when they decide to move on. He will tell them you are a bad tenant, you pay your rent late, whatever. I will say that the people who work for Alfonso are very nice, and try to be helpful. Also, all the maintenance men are great. I never worry about my things when I know a maintenance man is coming in my apt. when I'm not home.

Also, I want to say that in generaly, people in this area of Maryland seem to be pretty crappy drivers. This is also true of the parking lot, despite the 5 mph speed limit signs. I would NOT let your kids run around here, as people fly through the parking lot everyday. In another review, a tenant mentioned a deaf child living in the complex. This is true, there is a sign when you enter the complex, but, it does not stop people from driving like idiots through the parking lot. It seems that, although there is a playground out front and a few grassy areas for the children to play, for the most part, these kiddies prefer the parking lot. I do not blame the kiddies, but their parents, for allowing them to run wild. BUT, I think H. Square could and should do something about this before someone gets hurt. You cannot depend on these kids to get out of the way. It takes careful driving to maneuver around our parking lot. It's just scary to see so many kids running around with SUVs flying thru the lots.

I have taken care not to exaggerate anything I have experienced living at Heritage Square. What I have written here is really how it is in this complex. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!
