Great value for Metro proximity, but beware gunshots

I actually lived at Lenox Court which is across the street, but managed by Sutton Walk. The biggest problem I have is that the dryer in the apartment is very underpowered and takes about 4-5 hours to dry each load. Management says there is no problem, but it's still cool to even have an in-apartment laundry. I have had no other maintenance problems; the A/C, heat, and hot water works perfectly, even though the buildings aren't the newest around (built in the late 60's I think). The walls are solid; I have never heard my neighbors once.
One drawback is the neighborhood - I have heard gunshots several times at night, probably from the subsidized condominiums that are next door. I have not investigated or tried to find out the details. Despite the proximity to the metro station and New Carrollton federal building (IRS), it clearly isn't the best neighborhood. The Metro is less than 10 minutes walk away, best feature of the complex. There is a Blockbuster and small strip mall also walking distance.
The grounds are well-kept and the apartment staff is nice. I did have my car towed once because the plates were expired, which somewhat surprised me. They also send out letters all the time threatening to kick you out for the most minor violations, such as leaving trash in the lobby or being one day late on your rent, so be careful to follow all the rules.
